Latin Music (genre)
Latin music (Portuguese and es, música latina) is a term used by the music industry as a catch-all category for various styles of music from Ibero-America (including Spain and Portugal) and the Latino United States inspired by Latin American, Spanish and Portuguese music genres, as well as music that is sung in either Spanish and/or Portuguese. Terminology and categorization Because the majority of Latino immigrants living in New York City in the 1950s were of Puerto Rican or Cuban descent, "Latin music" had been stereotyped as music simply originating from the Spanish Caribbean. The popularization of bossa nova and Herb Alpert's Mexican-influenced sounds in the 1960s did little to change the perceived image of Latin music. O Globo
''O Globo'' (, ''The Globe'') is a Brazilian newspaper based in Rio de Janeiro. ''O Globo'' is the most prominent print publication in the Grupo Globo media conglomerate. Founded by journalist Irineu Marinho, owner of ''A Noite'', it was originally intended as a morning daily to extend the newspaper interests of the company. Tijuana No!
Tijuana No! is a Mexican ska, rock and punk band from Tijuana, Baja California, México. The band is considered a punk rock, ska band in Mexico and influenced by The Clash, Dead Kennedys, Sex Pistols and Black Flag. In the beginning their name was Radio Chantaje ''(Blackmail Radio)'', and later they became No, but upon the knowledge of another band called the same, they changed their name to No de Tijuana ''(Not From Tijuana)'', to later just shorten it to Tijuana No!. They were characterized by the social criticism in their lyrics, where they also showed their support to the EZLN, and made reference in their songs to racial, cultural, international, and governmental problems, like the immigration policies in the United States. Mujeres Encinta
Mujeres Encinta was a short-lived musical project / concept band known for recording only on cassette. They sang in English, Spanish and French and wrote most of their songs in collaboration. The wide range of background and musical styles of its members was both conducive for their originality and richness as a project, as well as one of the main reasons for their break-up. Despite the fact that they released cassettes with known labels, they remain an obscure band known mainly to artsy crowds. Lineup Mujeres Encinta was also known for their many fluctuating international members. Flema
Flema is an Argentine punk rock band, that managed to find a unique style in South America, among others. The last configuration of the band was: Ricky Espinosa (Vocals and Guitar), Fernando Rossi (Bass), Luis Garibaldo (Guitar), and Pepe Carvallo (Drums). Their songs usually deal with loneliness, alcohol and drugs, friends, women, politics, and complaints about the tough things in life. Their songs have titles like "Borrachos en la esquina" (drunken on the corner), "Semen de buey" (bullock semen), "el blanco cristal" (the white crystal). Tribalistas
Tribalistas (Brazilian Portuguese: /tɾibaˈlistɐs, -ˈliʃtɐʃ/) is a Brazilian supergroup consisting of Arnaldo Antunes (ex-Titãs), Marisa Monte and Carlinhos Brown (Timbalada). Their debut collaboration resulted in the popular album '' Tribalistas'', released in Brazil in late 2002 by EMI and in international territories in 2003. The album attained considerable popularity despite the group never performing any song on TV or giving any radio interviews. A DVD release featuring the 'making of' and all the tracks on the album was also released internationally. The song "Já Sei Namorar" was featured in the video game FIFA Football 2004 and the song "Velha Infancia" was used as part of the soundtrack of the Brazilian soap opera ''Mulheres Apaixonadas''. Trazendo a Arca is a Christian band from Nova Iguaçu, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Biography The group was formed in 2002 in the Church Ministério Apascentar. Mambrú
Mambrú was a male pop group from Buenos Aires, Argentina. They saw both local and international success from 2002 until 2005 when they disbanded. The group's debut album, released in October 2002, had become a triple platinum record by 2003.
