	Carousel (ballet) ''Carousel (A Dance)'' is a ballet made by New York City Ballet resident choreographer Christopher Wheeldon to the music of ''Carousel Waltz'' and ''If I Loved You'' (1945) by Richard Rodgers, arranged and orchestrated by William David Brohn. The music used in the ballet is from Rodgers and Hammerstein's classic 1945 musical ''Carousel''. The premiere took place Tuesday, 26 November 2002, at the New York State Theater, Lincoln Center. Production ''Carousel (A Dance)'' was commissioned as part of New York City Ballet's gala celebrating Richard Rodgers's centennial, and was not intended to be revived afterwards, though the positive reviews led to its revivals. The ballet is set to music from the 1945 musical ''Carousel'', but it is pure dance rather than a narrative ballet. The ballet shows a love pas de deux between the lead couple, highlighted from the corps de ballet. The ballet was added to Pacific Northwest Ballet's repertoire in 2009. 	Bruno Moretti Bruno Moretti (born 1957) is an Italian composer, pianist, and conductor. He has composed ballet music (as well as theatre, cinema and television music) working in collaboration with the choreographer Mauro Bigonzetti. He is also an accompanist of singers. Biography Moretti was born in Rome, and studied initially with Armando Renzi. Then he became Nino Rota’s assistant for the creation of the opera Napoli Milionaria at Spoleto festival in 1977. Later he studied conducting at Siena's Accademia Musicale Chigiana. He made his conducting debut in 1979 at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma with ''Madama Butterfly'' by Giacomo Puccini. He has conducted throughout Italy and in England, Israel, the Far East and North America. 	Mauro Bigonzetti Mauro Bigonzetti (born 1960) is an Italian ballet dancer and choreographer. He trained at the ballet school of Teatro dell'Opera di Roma and entered their company in 1979. In 1983 Bigonzetti joined the Reggio Emilia company Aterballetto, renowned for its contemporary repertory. He first began to choreograph for Aterballetto in 1990. In 1993 he joined Balletto di Toscana as resident choreographer and in 1997 returned to Aterballetto as artistic director. Throughout his choreographic career Bigonzetti has maintained a close relationship with Aterballetto. He continues there as principal choreographer, although his career now centers on commissions written for major companies abroad. He served as director of La Scala Ballet in 2016 but resigned for health reasons after eight months. 	Christopher Wheeldon Christopher Peter Wheeldon OBE (born 22 March 1973) is an English international choreographer of contemporary ballet. Life and career Born in Yeovil, Somerset, to an engineer and a physical therapist, Wheeldon began training to be a ballet dancer at the age of 8. He attended the Royal Ballet School between the ages of 11 and 18. In 1991, Wheeldon joined the Royal Ballet, London; and in that same year, he won the gold medal at the Prix de Lausanne competition. 	Oliver Knussen Stuart Oliver Knussen (12 June 1952 – 8 July 2018) was a British composer and conductor. Early life Oliver Knussen was born in Glasgow, Scotland. His father, Stuart Knussen, was principal double bass of the London Symphony Orchestra, and also participated in a number of premieres of Benjamin Britten's music. Oliver Knussen studied composition with John Lambert between 1963 and 1969, and also received encouragement from Britten. He spent several summers studying with Gunther Schuller at Tanglewood in Massachusetts and in Boston. Musical life Knussen began composing at about the age of six; an ITV programme about his father's work with the London Symphony Orchestra prompted the commissioning for his first symphony (1966–1967). 	Miriam Mahdaviani Miriam Mahdaviani is a choreographer, a former New York City Ballet dancer and a '' repetiteur'' for the George Balanchine Trust. She has created ballets for NYCB's 1988 American Music Festival and its Diamond Project in 1992, 1994,1997, 2000 and 2002. She also choreographed ballets for Pacific Northwest Ballet, Richmond Ballet, Jacob's Pillow, Vassar College, NYU Tisch School of the Arts, SUNY Purchase, and others.
