The 2002 Tour Down Under was the fourth edition of the Tour Down Under stage race. It took place from 15 to 20 January in and around Adelaide, South Australia. This edition was won by Michael Rogers, who rode for Team AIS. Route The route of the 2002 Tour Down Under is centred around the city of Adelaide in South Australia. There were six mass-start road stages and no time trials. Michael Rogers (born 20 December 1979) is an Australian retired professional road bicycle racer who competed professionally between 1999 and 2016, for the , , , and teams. Strathalbyn, South Australia
Strathalbyn is a town in South Australia, in the Alexandrina Council. As of 2016, the town had a population of approximately 6,500. Location Strathalbyn is 60 km southeast of Adelaide on the banks of the River Angas, at the southeastern edge of the Adelaide Hills and beginning of the Fleurieu Peninsula. Henk Vogels
Hendricus "Henk" Vogels (born 31 July 1973, in Perth) is an Australian former professional road bicycle racer who retired from competition at the end of the 2008 season, riding with the Toyota-United Pro Cycling Team. He won the Australian national road race title in 1999. He was an Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holder. He was subsequently directeur sportif of the Fly V-Successful Living team. Vogels also provides expert opinion for SBS Cycling Central. Vogels served as sports director of the team in 2014, however he left the team at the end of the season in order to take a break from the sport in 2015 and spend more time with his family. In 2019 he was announced as the sports director of the Australian ARA Pro Racing cycling team, based in Queensland. Julian Dean (born 28 January 1975) is a former professional road racing cyclist from New Zealand who competed as a professional between 1999 and 2013. He last rode for UCI World Tour team , where he now works as an assistant sporting director and mentor. His main achievements include winning the 2007 and 2008 New Zealand National Road Race Championships, finishing 9th in the 2005 World Road Championships in Madrid, and 10th place in the 2002 World Road Championships in Zolder. Tanunda, South Australia
Tanunda is a town situated in the Barossa Valley region of South Australia, 70 kilometres north-east of the state capital, Adelaide. The town derives its name from an Aboriginal word meaning ''water hole''. The town's population is approximately 4600. The postcode is 5352 Settlement Prussian immigrants who arrived with Pastor Gotthard Fritzsche founded the village of Bethanien in 1842, the first settlement in the vicinity of today's Tanunda. One year later, Prussians relocating from Klemzig on the Torrens River, where they had settled upon immigrating in 1838 with Pastor August Kavel, came to the Barossa Valley and founded the village of Langmeil. Gawler, South Australia
Gawler is the oldest country town on the Australian mainland in the state of South Australia. It was named after the second Governor (British Vice-Regal representative) of the colony of South Australia, George Gawler. It is about north of the centre of the state capital, Adelaide, and is close to the major wine producing district of the Barossa Valley.
