2002 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships – Women's 100 Metre Backstroke
The women's 100 metre backstroke competition at the 2002 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships took place on August 25–26 at the Yokohama International Swimming Pool. The 1999 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships – Women's 100 metre backstroke, last champions were Dyana Calub of Australia and Mai Nakamura (backstroke swimmer), Mai Nakamura of Japan. This race consisted of two lengths of the pool, all in backstroke. Yokohama International Swimming Pool
is a swimming venue in Yokohama, Japan. The main pool is converted to a basketball arena in fall and winter by setting up panels on the floor. This Pitch (sports field), sports court can be slippery. This arena is home of the B.League basketball club Yokohama B-Corsairs. Courtney Shealy
Courtney Amanda Shealy (born December 12, 1977), from Irmo, South Carolina, later known by her married name Courtney Hart, is an American former competition swimmer, Olympic gold medalist, and former world record-holder. Shealy swam the third leg of the world record-breaking women's 4×100-meter freestyle relay team that won gold at the 2000 Summer Olympics. Her winning teammates were Jenny Thompson, Dara Torres and Amy Van Dyken. At the same Olympics, she swam in the qualifying heats of the women's 4×100-meter medley relay, and earned a gold medal for doing so. Kelly Stefanyshyn
Kelly Stefanyshyn (born July 6, 1982) is a Canadian competitive swimmer and backstroke specialist who represented her native country at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. Stefanyshyn was a member of Canada's sixth-place team in the women's 4x100-metre medley relay. Individually, she also finished eighth in the women's 200-metre backstroke, and competed in the semifinals of the 100-metre backstroke. Stefanyshyn was previously a three-medal-winner at the 1999 Pan American Games in Winnipeg. She won a gold medal in the 100-metre backstroke, a silver in the 4x100-metre medley relay, and a bronze in the 200-metre backstroke. She attended the University of British Columbia, where she was a member of the UBC Thunderbirds swimming and diving team in CIS competition from 2001 to 2004. Giaan Rooney
Giaan Leigh Rooney, OAM (born 15 November 1982) is an Australian former competitive swimmer and television personality. As a member of the Australian team in women's 4×100-metre medley relay, she won an Olympic gold medal and broke a world record at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Rooney is currently an Australian television presenter. Personal life Rooney was born in Brisbane and moved to the Gold Coast at age 8 where she attended Miami State Primary School and All Saints Anglican School. Giaan is married to Sam Levett. Reiko Nakamura
is a Japanese Olympic and Asian record-holding swimmer. She swam in the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games, winning the bronze medals in the 200m backstroke at both editions. In doing so, she became the first Japanese woman in 72 years to win medals at consecutive Olympic games. She retired shortly after achieving this, in October 2008. At the 2008 Olympics, Nakamura set the Asian Records and Japanese Records in both the 100 and 200 backstrokes (59.36 and 2:07.13). At the 2007 World Championships, she swam to a new Japanese Record in the 100 back (1:00.40) in finishing third. Jennifer Fratesi
Jennifer Fratesi (born April 20, 1984) is a Canadian former competitive swimmer who specialized in backstroke events. Fratesi set a Canadian record of 2:11.16 in the 200-metre backstroke at the 2001 FINA World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, placing 4th in the world. This national record would last nearly a decade, one of the oldest in the country. Fratesi grew up in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario swimming for the Sault Ste Marie Aquatics club until age 15, then relocated to the national swim center in Waterloo Ontario. She saw an immediate drop in her times here under the direction of Bud McAllister, an American born coach. Fratesi went on to win 1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze at the Junior Olympics in Sydney, Australia and won 10 national senior titles in her career. Clementine Stoney (born 22 October 1981) is an Australian former competitive swimmer and former world record-holder. She represented Australia at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. There she finished in thirteenth position in the 200-metre backstroke. Stoney won the silver medal in the 200-metre backstroke at the 2000 FINA Short Course World Championships in Athens, Greece. Michelle Lischinsky (born August 15, 1974) is a Canadian former swimmer who specialized in backstroke events. Biography She represented Canada, as a 25-year-old, at the 2000 Summer Olympics. She also trained for the Manitoba Swim Club under her longtime coach and mentor Vlastimil Černý, a Czech-born swimmer who competed in the 100-metre butterfly at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. Lischinsky competed only in two swimming events at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. She finished behind her teammate Kelly Stefanyshyn from the Olympic Trials in Montreal with a FINA A-cut of 1:02.89.
