2002 Leeds City Council Election
The Leeds City Council election took place on 2 May 2002 to elect members of City of Leeds Metropolitan Borough Council in West Yorkshire, England. Prior to the election, there had been 2000 Leeds City Council election#By-elections between 2000 and 2002, several by-elections held with no change to the council composition. One third of the council was up for election and the Labour Party (UK), Labour party stayed in overall control of the council. Campaign 33 seats were contested in the election with Labour defending 23 seats, the Conservative Party (UK), Conservatives 5, Liberal Democrats (UK), Liberal Democrats 4 and 1 Independent (politician), independent. Hunslet () is an inner-city area in south Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It is southeast of the Leeds city centre, city centre and has an industrial past. Wortley, West Yorkshire
Wortley ( ) is an inner city area of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It begins one mile to the west of the city centre. The appropriate City of Leeds ward is called Farnley and Wortley. It was known as ''Wirkelay'' until about 1700. Wortley was a weaving township within the parish of Leeds before it became industrial with coal pits, brickworks, railway yards and engine sheds—including a roundhouse, on Wellington Road. Wharfedale ( ) is the valley of the upper parts of the River Wharfe and one of the Yorkshire Dales. It is situated within the districts of Craven and Harrogate in North Yorkshire, and the cities of Leeds and Bradford in West Yorkshire. It is the upper valley of the River Wharfe.
