Virginia Ruano Pascual and Tomás Carbonell were the defending champions, but had different outcomes. Ruano Pascual teamed up with Gastón Etlis and lost in second round to Cara and Wayne Black, while Carbonell did not compete this year due to retiring from professional tennis in 2001. Cara Black and Wayne Black won the title by defeating Elena Bovina and Mark Knowles 6–3, 6–3 in the final. It was the 1st Grand Slam mixed doubles title for both Cara and Wayne in their respective careers. Cara Black
Cara Cavell Black (born 17 February 1979) is a Zimbabwean former professional tennis player. Black was primarily a doubles specialist, winning 60 WTA Tour and 11 ITF doubles titles. A former doubles world No. 1, she won ten major titles. By winning the 2010 Australian Open mixed doubles title, Black became the third woman in the Open Era to complete the career Grand Slam in mixed doubles (after Martina Navratilova and Daniela Hantuchová). Having also won one singles title on the WTA Tour, Black peaked at world No. 31 in the singles rankings in March 1999. Kevin Ullyett
Kevin Ullyett (born 23 May 1972) is a former professional tennis player from Zimbabwe. His primary success on the tour was in men's doubles. Ullyett won 34 doubles titles during his career, including two Grand Slams at the 2001 US Open and the 2005 Australian Open with countryman Wayne Black. He also competed in the 2000 and 2004 Summer Olympics, coming in at fifth place in 2004 with Black. In mixed doubles, Ullyett won the 2002 Australian Open with Daniela Hantuchová. Julien Varlet (born 8 September 1977) is a former professional tennis player from France. Varlet was a singles participant at three Grand Slams and at each event exited in a five set match. Alexandra Fusai (born 22 November 1973) is a former professional tennis player from France. Fusai was born in Saint-Cloud, Hauts-de-Seine. Starting from September 1989 when she turned professional, Fusai played four tournaments (all of them part of the ITF Women's Circuit) on the international tennis circuit in 1989.
