2002 Caribbean Series
The forty-fourth edition of the Caribbean Series (''Serie del Caribe'') was held from February 2 through February 8 of with the champion baseball teams of the Dominican Republic, Tigres del Licey; Mexico, Tomateros de Culiacán; Puerto Rico, Vaqueros de Bayamón, and Venezuela, Navegantes del Magallanes. The format consisted of 12 games, each team facing the other teams twice, and the games were played at Estadio Universitario in Caracas, the capital city of Venezuela. The Caribbean Series (''Spanish'': ''Serie del Caribe''), also called Caribbean World Series, is the highest tournament for professional baseball teams in Latin America. The tournament location is rotated annually among the countries and is normally played in February after all of the leagues have ended their national tournaments. Flag Of Venezuela (1954-2006)
The current eight stars flag of Venezuela was introduced in 2006. The basic design includes a horizontal tricolour of yellow, blue, and red, dating to the original flag introduced in 1811, in the Venezuelan War of Independence. Further modifications have involved including a set of stars, multiple changes to the placement and number of stars and inclusion of an optional coat of arms at the upper-left corner. Original flag The flag is essentially the one designed by Francisco de Miranda for his unsuccessful 1806 expedition to liberate Venezuela and later adopted by the National Congress of 1811. Carlos Baerga
Carlos Obed Ortiz Baerga (; ; born November 4, 1968) is a Puerto Rican former Major League Baseball player. Baerga was known for his superb hitting abilities during his first stint with the Cleveland Indians in the early-to-mid-1990s, accumulating impressive batting statistics, earning three All-Star appearances (1992, 1993, 1995), two Silver Slugger Awards (1993, 1994), and making key contributions to the Indians' 1995 postseason run. He was considered one of Major League Baseball's hardest-hitting middle infielders by 1995 with his superb bat speed and switch-hitting power. Miguel Odalis Tejada ( Tejeda; born May 25, 1974) is a Dominican former professional baseball shortstop who played 16 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB). He played for six teams, most notably the Oakland Athletics and Baltimore Orioles, before short stints with the Houston Astros, San Diego Padres, San Francisco Giants, and Kansas City Royals. Tejada spent his first six seasons in MLB with the Athletics, where he began a streak of 1,152 consecutive games that ended with the Orioles on June 22, 2007. Darrell Edward Sherman (born December 4, 1967) is an American former professional baseball outfielder. Sherman graduated from Lynwood High School in California and began his college baseball career at Cerritos College. The team had a record of 84–11 in his two years at the school. In 1988, he set school records in runs scored, walks, times on base and stolen bases. Sherman chose to continue his college baseball career at Long Beach State after reneging on a commitment to play at Cal State Fullerton. In 1989, Sherman helped lead the Dirtbags to the College World Series. Sherman was selected by the San Diego Padres in the sixth round of the 1989 Major League Baseball draft. In baseball statistics, a hit (denoted by H), also called a base hit, is credited to a batter when the batter safely reaches or passes first base after hitting the ball into fair territory with neither the benefit of an error nor a fielder's choice. Scoring a hit To achieve a hit, the batter must reach first base before any fielder can either tag him with the ball, throw to another player protecting the base before the batter reaches it, or tag first base while carrying the ball. In baseball, a run is scored when a player advances around first, second and third base and returns safely to home plate, touching the bases in that order, before three outs are recorded and all obligations to reach base safely on batted balls are met or assured. Kit Donovan Pellow (born August 28, 1973) is a former professional baseball player. He has played parts of three seasons in Major League Baseball as a utility player, and also played one season each in the KBO League and the Chinese Professional Baseball League. Career Pellow was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 60th round of the 1994 Major League Baseball draft, but he did not sign.
