2002 Australian Open
The 2002 Australian Open was a tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts at Melbourne Park in Melbourne in Australia. It was the 90th edition of the Australian Open and was held from 14 through 27 January 2002 and attracted an attendance of 518,248. Andre Agassi and Jennifer Capriati were the defending champions. Agassi, chose to withdraw from the tournament due to wrist injury. Thomas Johansson won his first Grand Slam title, while Capriati successfully defended her title defeating three-time champion Martina Hingis in the final. Kia Motors began its sponsorship of the Australian Open in this season replacing Ford. Juan Antonio Marín
Juan Antonio Marín Casero (born 2 March 1975) is a former professional male tennis player from Costa Rica. He originally played on tour under the Spanish flag, as he was born to a father from Murcia and a mother from Asturias, and lived in Spain since the age of 14. However, in May 1998 he began representing Costa Rica. In October 1999, Marín reached his career-high singles ranking of world No. 55. Previously that year he came close to beating the then-world No. 2 Pete Sampras at the 1999 French Open, with the American eventually winning 6–7, 6–4, 7–5, 6–7, 6–4. Vadim Kutsenko (born March 13, 1977) is a professional Uzbekistani tennis player. Kutsenko reached his highest individual ranking on the ATP Tour on June 17, 2002, when he became World number 140. He primarily plays on the Futures circuit and the Challenger circuit. Kutsenko's best performance at a Grand Slam event came at the 2003 Australian Open, where he reached the second round. Jamie Delgado
Jamie Delgado (born 21 March 1977) is a British tennis coach and former professional player. Delgado has represented Great Britain in the Davis Cup, most recently in 2006. Delgado holds the all-time male record for playing in consecutive Wimbledon tournaments, playing for the 23rd time in 2014 at the age of 37. His best singles performance at Wimbledon was reaching the second round, on three occasions (1999, 2001 and 2006). He reached the quarter-finals of the President's Cup tournament in Kazakhstan in 2000. Nicolas Coutelot (born 9 February 1977) is a retired professional male tennis player from France who reached a career-high singles ranking of World No. 87 in May 2002. Paul Goldstein (tennis)
Paul Herbert Goldstein (born August 4, 1976) is a retired tennis player from the United States, who turned professional in 1998. He announced his retirement from professional tennis in February 2008, as he was starting working with a clean energy company. As a junior, he won the USTA Boys' 16s National Championship in 1992, and the USTA Boys' 18s National Championships in both 1993 and 1994. He then played college tennis at Stanford University, from which he graduated after a career in which he was named an All-American each of the four years he played, and the team won the national championship each year. He won the gold medal in singles at the 1999 Pan American Games. Fernando Francisco González Ciuffardi (; born 29 July 1980) is a Chilean former professional tennis player. David Prinosil ( cz, David Přinosil; born 9 March 1973) is a former tennis player from Germany, who turned professional in 1991. Prinosil was born in Olomouc, Czechoslovakia, but later moved to Germany. He represented his country at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, where he was defeated in the first round by Daniel Vacek of the Czech Republic. In the doubles competition in Stone Mountain Park he won the bronze medal partnering Marc-Kevin Goellner.
