Radès
Radès ( ar, رادس) is a harbour city in Ben Arous Governorate, Tunisia. Situated south-east of the capital Tunis, some consider it a Tunis suburb, and parts of the harbor installations of Tunis are located in Radès. Djabir Saïd-Guerni
Aïssa Djabir Saïd-Guerni ( ar, عيسى جبير سعيد قرني, born 29 March 1977 in Algiers) is a retired Algerian athlete who predominantly competed in the 800 metres. Saïd-Guerni competed at the 2000 Summer Olympics and 2004 Summer Olympics in the 800 metres, and was also the flag bearer for Algeria at both these games. He announced his retirement on 6 May 2007, following injury problems. Wilson Boit Kipketer
Wilson Boit Kipketer (born 6 October 1973 in Kenya) is a middle and long distance athlete most widely known for running the 3000 m steeplechase. On 13 August 1997, at the Weltklasse Zürich, he set the world record in the steeplechase at 7:59.08, the third of three world records set in a 70-minute period of time. He was second individual after Moses Kiptanui to run under eight minutes. Boit Kipketer's record only stood for 11 days before it was crushed by Bernard Barmasai who took almost seconds off the mark. A week earlier, Boit Kipketer led a Kenyan sweep of the same race in the 1997 World Championships, edging out Barmasai and then world record holder, three-time defending champion Kiptanui. Brahim Boulami
Brahim Boulami ( ar, ابراهيم بولامي) (born April 20, 1972 in Safi) is a Moroccan athlete who set two world records in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, 7:55.28 and 7:53.17. The latter was overturned because he tested positive for the banned performance-enhancing drug EPO. Boulami was banned for two years in 2002 after the positive test. His time of 7:55.28 in the 3000 meter steeplechase from the year before the positive test is currently the fourth fastest ever run. His older brother Khalid Boulami is an Olympic bronze medalist. Benjamin Maiyo
Benjamin Maiyo (born 6 October 1978) is a Kenyan long-distance runner who competes in the marathon. He began his career as a track specialist in the 5000 metres and 10,000 metres. He ran in the 10,000 m final at the 1999 World Championships in Athletics and finished in seventh place. He achieved his 5000 m best of 13:02.28 minutes at the Athletissima meeting in 2000 and ran his 10,000 m best of 27:07.55 minutes in Palo Alto, California the following year. In the longer event, he won a silver medal behind Assefa Mezgebu at the 2001 Goodwill Games and was the bronze medallist at the 2002 African Championships in Athletics. John Cheruiyot Korir (born 13 December 1981) is a Kenyan athlete who specializes in long-distance running. He is known to be an athlete who often shines at trials but fails to win big competitions. Career He was born in Kiramwok, Bomet District. He began running in 1994, while still at primary school. He graduated from the Merigi Secondary School in 1998. He enlisted in the Kenyan Army in 2001. He is a member of the Kipsigis people, a Kalenjin sub-tribe. John Cheruiyot Korir is not to be confused with John Kipsang Korir, who mainly competes in U.S. races. Paul Malakwen Kosgei (born 22 April 1978, in Marakwet) is a Kenyan long-distance and marathon runner. He first came to prominence in athletics by taking the World Junior Record of 3000m steeple in 1997, and later with consecutive medals at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships from 1998 to 2000. In 1999 he started his technical collaboration with the Italian Coach Renato Canova, that changed his event, looking at longer distances. He made his debut at the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships in 2002 and became the surprise world champion for the event. Later that year he became the African champion on the track in the 10,000 metres and also won silver medals at the 2002 Commonwealth Games and 2002 IAAF World Cup. Benjamin Kipkoech Limo (born 23 August 1974 in Chepkongony, Uasin Gishu) is a Kenyan former middle- and long-distance runner. His races ranged distances from 1500 m to 10,000 m, but Limo mainly competed in 5000 metres, where he has won international medals. Limo went to Chebara and Lelboinet High Schools, but enlisted for the Kenyan Army in 1993, without completing his studies. He started full-time training in 1996 and was based at an army camp in Ngong, near capital Nairobi. He competed in his first race abroad at the 1998 IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Marrakech, Morocco and finished fourth in the short race. He earned his first international medals in 1999. Paul Bitok
Paul Bitok (born 26 June 1970 in Kilibwoni, Nandi) is a Kenyan long-distance runner, who won two silver medals at consecutive Summer Olympics (1992, 1996) over 5000 metres. Life Bitok emerged in 1992 as a relatively unknown athlete. He qualified for the Barcelona Games at the Kenyan trials and defeated several world class athletes at the Bislett Games in Oslo. By the time of the Olympics he had established himself as one of the favourites. He narrowly lost the final to Dieter Baumann of Germany. A few weeks later he won the 5000 m race in Zurich.
