The team captain of an association football team, sometimes known as the skipper, is a team member chosen to be the on-pitch leader of the team; they are often one of the older or more experienced members of the squad, or a player that can heavily influence a game or has good leadership qualities. Wes Hoolahan
Wesley Patrick Hoolahan (born 20 May 1982) is an Irish professional footballer who most recently played as an attacking midfielder for League One club Cambridge United. Hoolahan began his playing career with Shelbourne and has previously played for Livingston, Blackpool, West Bromwich Albion, Newcastle Jets and had a 10-year stay at Norwich City. He was the subject of a contested transfer between Livingston and Blackpool in 2007, eventually requiring mediation by FIFA before he was able to sign for Blackpool. Pat Fenlon
Patrick Fenlon (born 15 March 1969) is an Irish football coach and former player. Fenlon played as a midfielder for St Patrick's Athletic, Bohemians, Linfield, Shamrock Rovers and Shelbourne. As a manager he won five League of Ireland titles with Shelbourne and Bohemians between 2003 and 2009. During his time with Bohemians Fenlon also won the FAI Cup in 2008, the League of Ireland Cup in 2009 and the Setanta Sports Cup in 2010. Fenlon moved to Scottish club Hibernian in November 2011, who he helped reach two Scottish Cup Finals, although both were lost heavily. Playing career Fenlon was born in Dublin. After playing as a schoolboy with four local clubs, he was with London club Chelsea as a young trainee. David Byrne (footballer Born 1979)
David Byrne (born 14 November 1979) in Dublin is an Irish footballer who last played for Kildare County as a central midfielder. Career Byrne started his career with Shelbourne before a move to Scottish Premier League side Dundee United. During his season with United he made just one appearance, playing at Parkhead in a 4–1 defeat to Celtic. Byrne moved back to Shelbourne, where he played for three years, picking up a league winners' medal. Spells at St Pat's and Derry City followed, before his move to Longford in January 2006. Byrne moved to Athlone at the start of the 2007 season. Following his departure from Athlone Town in July 2008 Byrne had a short spell back in Premier Division football with Finn Harps. James "Jim" Crawford (born 1 May 1973) is an Irish former professional footballer and current football coach. He played as a midfielder for Bohemians, Newcastle United, Rotherham United, Dundee United, Reading, Shelbourne and Sporting Fingal. Richie Baker (Irish Footballer)
Richie Baker (born 17 April 1980) is an Irish former footballer. Besides the Republic of Ireland, he has played in the United States. Career Richie, who served his footballing apprenticeship with Stella Maris, is the brother of Dessie Baker, alongside whom he made numerous appearances for Shelbourne in the late 1990s and early 2000s (decade). Richie made his League of Ireland and Shelbourne debut at the age of 18 against Shamrock Rovers in August 1998. During this period, Baker was an important part of the Irish national team youth teams, playing for the U-18's, U-20's, and U-21's. Glen Downey
Glen Downey (born 20 September 1978) is an English former professional footballer who played as a defender from 1997 to 2007. He notably played in the Football League for Grimsby Town, having also had spells with Hartlepool United, Bishop Auckland, Spennymoor United, Gateshead, Shelbourne, Newry City, Scarborough and Worksop Town. Career Downey started his career as a trainee at Hartlepool United in 1997 but in three years with the club he had failed to make a single first team appearance and was released in 2000. Philip Byrne
Philip Byrne (born 6 April 1982 in Dublin) is an Irish footballer. He plays for Carrick Rangers. In 2004, Byrne was signed by then Kildare County manager Eric Hannigan from Shelbourne. He has been a dependable fixture at the centre of the Kildare County defence for both Hannigan and current manager Ryan. Philip was awarded the Supporters Club Player of the Year in his debut season for the club in 2004. He was selected as Kildare County's captain for the 2007 season. Alan Keely
Alan Vincent Keely (10 May 1982 – 3 May 2021) was an Irish footballer who played as a defender for several League of Ireland teams between 2001 and 2009, including Shelbourne F.C., Finn Harps F.C. and Waterford United F.C. He was a member of the Finn Harps' squad that won the 2004 League of Ireland First Division. Early life and education Keely was born on 10 May 1982 in Dublin, Ireland. Peter Hutton (born 2 March 1973) is a People of Northern Ireland, Northern Irish football coach and former player. A centre back, he spent the majority of his 21 years playing career with Derry City F.C., Derry City, and set a club record of over 670 appearances in the League of Ireland. His father, also named Peter, played for Finn Harps in the 1970s. Tony McCarthy
Anthony Paul "Tony" McCarthy (born 9 November 1969) is an Irish retired footballer who is currently the physiotherapist at Shamrock Rovers. Career Tony started his League of Ireland career with University College Dublin in 1987. During his last season at Belfield Park he was capped by the Republic of Ireland U21 in April 1990 at Oriel Park. After two seasons, he transferred to Derry City where he gained two further U21 caps.
