2001–02 Florida Gators Men's Basketball Team
The 2001–02 Florida Gators men's basketball team represented the University of Florida in the sport of basketball during the 2001–02 college basketball season. The Gators competed in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Eastern Division of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). They were led by head coach Billy Donovan, and played their home games in the O'Connell Center on the university's Gainesville, Florida campus. The Gators were the SEC Eastern Division champions, winning a share of the division title for the third straight season. They earned a No. 5 seed in the 2002 NCAA tournament, falling to Creighton in the first round in double overtime. Billy Donovan
William John Donovan Jr. (born May 30, 1965) is an American professional basketball coach and former player. He has served as head coach of the Chicago Bulls of the National Basketball Association (NBA) since September 2020 after previously coaching the Oklahoma City Thunder from 2015 to 2020. Before moving to the NBA, he served as the head basketball coach at the University of Florida from 1996 to 2015, and led his Florida Gator teams to back-to-back NCAA championships in 2006 and 2007, as well as an NCAA championship appearance in 2000. Donovan was born and raised in Rockville Centre on Long Island, New York, where he played basketball at St. Agnes Cathedral High School. Bonell Colas
Bonell Colas (born August 16, 1982) is an American former professional basketball player. Career Colas' parents moved from Haiti to Miami, Florida in the late 1970s. A power forward, he played basketball at North Miami High School, averaging 27.5 points and 12.3 rebounds a game as a senior. He enrolled at the University of Florida. Colas played for the Gators from 2000 to 2004, averaging 4.1 points and 2.6 rebounds per contest. James William White IV (born October 21, 1982) is an American professional basketball player and coach. White is well known for his athleticism and ability to dunk. Since high school, his most famous dunk has been the between-the-legs dunk, with many variations. He is also known for his ability to jump from the free throw line and dunk a basketball with both hands. Brett Nelson (basketball)
Brett Nelson (born October 22, 1980) is an American college basketball coach and former player. He is currently an assistant coach at UMass under head coach Frank Martin. Playing career A 1999 McDonald's All-American, Nelson was a standout at Saint Albans High School in West Virginia and was the state's player of the year his senior season. Nelson would play college basketball at Florida under Billy Donovan where he was a three-year starter and member of the Gators' 2000 NCAA tournament runner-up squad. David Lee (basketball)
David Lee (born April 29, 1983) is an American former professional basketball player. He played college basketball for the Florida Gators before he was drafted 30th overall by the New York Knicks in the 2005 NBA draft.
