The 2001–02 season was Burnley's 2nd season in the second tier of English football. Burnley () is a town and the administrative centre of the wider Borough of Burnley in Lancashire, England, with a 2001 population of 73,021. It is north of Manchester and east of Preston, at the confluence of the River Calder and River Brun. The town is located near the countryside to the south and east, with the towns of Padiham and Brierfield to the west and north respectively. It has a reputation as a regional centre of excellence for the manufacturing and aerospace industries. The town began to develop in the early medieval period as a number of farming hamlets surrounded by manor houses and royal forests, and has held a market for more than 700 years. During the Industrial Revolution it became one of Lancashire's most prominent mill towns; at its peak, it was one of the world's largest producers of cotton cloth and a major centre of engineering. Mitchell Thomas
Mitchell Thomas (born 2 October 1964) is an English former footballer who played as a defender. While at Tottenham Hotspur he started in the 1987 FA Cup Final. Playing career David Pleat brought Thomas into the Luton Town side from Limbury boys club in 1982. In 1985/86 Thomas played three games for England U21s in the European U21 championships. He played in a qualifier and one leg each of the quarter and semi finals, with two of his Luton Town colleagues Tim Breacker and Mike Newell. He was sold to Tottenham in July 1986 for a fee of £275,000, following the same movement of manager David Pleat. After his spell at Tottenham during which he played in the 1987 FA Cup Final, Thomas moved to West Ham Utd in August 1991 for £500,000 joining former Luton teammate Tim Breacker. Ian Thomas-Moore
Ian Moore (born 26 August 1976 in Birkenhead) is an English former professional footballer who played as a centre-forward or winger. Club career Tranmere Rovers Moore began his career at Tranmere Rovers, where he broke into the first team while still a teenager, and made more than 50 appearances. He also spent a short period on loan at Bradford City to gain more first team experience. Graham Branch
Graham Branch (born 12 February 1972) is a former professional footballer. Playing career Branch was born in Liverpool, England. A childhood Liverpool fan, he started his footballing career across the River Mersey with Heswall and then Tranmere Rovers. Having made 109 appearances for them, with loan deals at Bury and Wigan Athletic along the way, he was released on a free transfer to Stockport County for the beginning of the 1998–99 season, and quickly arrived at Burnley in January 1999, signed by the colourful manager Stan Ternent, following a falling-out with then Stockport manager, Gary Megson. Once described by Ternent as a Premiership-standard player, his inability to hold down a regular position either as a left-winger, left-sided or central defender, or striker, saw him never play there. Ian Cox
Ian Gary Cox CM (born 25 March 1971) is a Trinidad and Tobago former professional footballer. Cox was most recently joint manager at Whitstable Town, a post he took up in November 2015. He was part of the Trinidad and Tobago national team's squad at the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Playing career Born in Croydon, England, Cox joined Crystal Palace from non-League side Carshalton Athletic for a fee of £40,000 in 1994. Tony Grant (English Footballer)
Anthony James Grant (born 14 November 1974) is an English football coach and former player, he is the assistant head coach of EFL League One club Forest Green Rovers. A midfielder, he began his career with Premier League club Everton in 1993 and went on to play for Swindon Town, Tranmere Rovers, Manchester City, West Bromwich Albion, Burnley, Crewe Alexandra, Accrington Stanley and Chester City. He was capped once by England U21. After retiring from playing in 2008, Grant has coached at a variety of clubs and as of 2023 is assistant manager at League One side Forest Green Rovers. John Mullin (footballer)
John Michael Mullin (born 11 August 1975) is an English former professional footballer who played as a midfielder for clubs including Sunderland, Burnley F.C, Rotherham United, Tranmere Rovers F.C and Accrington Stanley, and is the brother of former Accrington and Morecambe player Paul Mullin. He is now a member of the coaching staff at Manchester City u18's. Career Mullin was born in Bury, Greater Manchester. Lenny Johnrose
Leonard Johnrose (29 November 1969 – 15 August 2022) was an English professional footballer who played for clubs including Burnley, Bury and Swansea City. He was a defensive midfielder. Career Johnrose began his career at Blackburn Rovers as a young trainee, and also spent time on loan at Preston North End. During these spells he impressed to a level where he was signed for £50,000 by Hartlepool United. He went on to make over fifty appearances for the club, scoring eleven goals in the process. At the end of his contract, he was signed by Bury manager Stan Ternent who wanted to add some toughness to his central midfield. Johnrose was a central character in Bury's rapid rise to the First Division. Paul Anthony Cook (born 22 February 1967) is an English professional football manager and former player who is currently manager of side Chesterfield. Cook played as a central midfielder during a playing career that spanned 23 years from 1983 until 2006, notably playing in the Premier League for Coventry City. Glen Matthew Little (born 15 October 1975) is an English footballer.
