South Korea
South Korea, officially the Republic of Korea (ROK), is a country in East Asia, constituting the southern part of the Korea, Korean Peninsula and sharing a Korean Demilitarized Zone, land border with North Korea. Kang Sung-hoon (singer)
Kang Sung-hoon (hangul:강성훈, born February 22, 1980) is a South Korean singer, best known as a former member of the 90s South Korean boy group Sechs Kies. While in Sechskies, Sunghoon was the main vocalist. After SechsKies had disbanded in 2000, Sung-hoon pursued a solo singing career, signed under Laful Entertainment at the time. His nickname Hoony is the title for his third album. Sunghoon joined Sechskies for their reunion in 2016, but left the group in early 2019 due to ongoing scandals. Career SechsKies Kang Sung-hoon, who was studying abroad in Hawaii, was scouted by DSP Entertainment, along with friend Eun Ji-won in a nightclub. They were supposed to debut as a duo. However, as H.O.T. became such a big hit, DSP decided to make a six-member male idol group. But Kang Sung-hoon refused to join the six-member group. K-pop
K-pop (), short for Korean popular music, is a form of popular music originating in South Korea as part of South Korean culture. It includes styles and genres from around the world, such as pop, hip hop, R&B, experimental, rock, jazz, gospel, reggae, electronic dance, folk, country, disco, and classical on top of its traditional Korean music roots. The term "K-pop" became popular in the 2000s, especially in the international context. The Korean term for domestic pop music is ''gayo'' (), which is still widely used within South Korea. While "K-pop" can refer to all popular music or pop music from South Korea, it is colloquially often used in a ''narrower'' sense for any Korean music and artists associated with the entertainment and idol industry in the country, regardless of the genre. Psy From The Psycho World!
''Psy from the Psycho World!'' is the debut album by South Korean singer Psy. The album was released on February 12, 2001. The album contains 19 songs. Track 11 "I Love Sex" is a re-make of Lee Jung-hyun's song "I Love X", featured on her debut album '' Let's Go to My Star''. The album was also released worldwide through iTunes. Release and controversy The full-length debut album is of the rap genre with songs such as "I Love Sex" that include candid lyrics. The title of the album refers to his stage name, a derivative of "psycho", and the album was made just after he attended Berklee College of Music and had returned to South Korea. On his choice of music, he listed rappers Eminem, 2Pac, Jay Z, and Dr. Dre as his musical influences. Roo'ra
Roo'ra (Hangul: 룰라) was a co-ed hip hop and dance-pop vocal group from South Korea who was one of the country's most popular musical acts of the 1990s. The group debuted in 1994 with the hit album ''Roots of Reggae''. Their second album, ''The Angel Who Lost Wings'' (1995), sold 1 million copies in record time. Roo'ra disbanded in 2001, then reunited in 2009 to release their ninth and final album, ''A9ain''. History The group caused significant controversy in 1996 through the discovery of their unattributed sampling of a Japanese track called "Omatsuri Ninja" (Japanese: お祭り忍者) by boy group Ninja directly in their own song "Cheon sang yu ae" (Hanja: 天上有愛; Hangul: 천상유애). Papaya (band)
Papaya () was an all girl pop group from South Korea. They released two albums before becoming inactive. History Papaya's first album, entitled 동화 ("Fairy Tale"), was distributed by 1 Star Music and Synnara Music on August 4, 2000, and featured five members (Kang Se-jung, Joo Yeun-jung, Cho Hye-kyung, Hwang Yoon-mi, and Kang Kyoung-ah). Natasha Shanta Reid (born May 31, 1981), better known by her Korean name Yoon Mi-rae (), often stylized as ''Yoonmirae'', is an American-born South Korean-based solo rapper, singer, songwriter, and producer, who is also a member of Korean hip hop trio MFBTY. Biography Early life and education Yoon was born on May 31, 1981, in Fort Hood, Texas to a South Korean mother and an African-American father. Yiruma
Lee Ru-ma ( ko, 이루마; born 15 February 1978), better known by his stage name Yiruma ( ko, 이루마, links=no), is a South Korean pianist and composer. Biography Yiruma was born in Seoul to a pastor. At age five, he began learning the piano and moved to the United Kingdom, where he attended the Purcell School for Young Musicians and graduated from King's College London. After graduation, Yiruma returned to South Korea and released his debut album, ''Love Scene'', in 2001. She made her debut in 1998 in the group, Koyote Koyote (), also known as KYT is a South Korean co-ed vocal group consisting of members Kim Jong-min, Shin Ji, and Bbaek Ga. Moon Hee-joon
Moon Hee-joon (; or spelled Moon Hee-jun; born March 14, 1978) is a South Korean pop rock singer-songwriter signed under SidusHQ. He initially rose to fame as the leader of former boy band H.O.T. under SM Entertainment. Biography 1996–2001: H.O.T. Being the second member to join H.O.T. after auditioning, Moon made his debut as a singer as the leader of the boy group. The group debuted with their first album, ''We Hate All Kinds of Violence'' in September 1996, which was accused of being plagiarized and lawsuits were placed against them. Lucid Fall
Jo Yun-suk (; born March 18, 1975), known by the stage name Lucid Fall (), is a South Korean singer-songwriter. He began his music career in 1997 as a member of the band Misoni (), but has been most prolific as a solo artist, having released nine studio albums since 2001. Lucid Fall's musical style incorporates folk, pop, and bossa nova. Since moving to Jeju Island in 2014 and becoming a tangerine orchardist, his output has also included ambient compositions.
