1500 Metres
The 1500 metres or 1,500-metre run (typically pronounced 'fifteen-hundred metres') is the foremost middle distance track event in athletics. The distance has been contested at the Summer Olympics since 1896 and the World Championships in Athletics since 1983. It is equivalent to 1.5 kilometers or approximately  miles. The event is closely associated with its slightly longer cousin, the mile race, from which it derives its nickname "the metric mile". The demands of the race are similar to that of the 800 metres, but with a slightly higher emphasis on aerobic endurance and a slightly lower sprint speed requirement. The 1500 metre race is predominantly aerobic, but anaerobic conditioning is also required. Leah Pells
Leah Marlee Pells (born November 9, 1964 in Vancouver, British Columbia) is a retired female track and field Athletics (sport), athlete from Canada who competed in the middle-distance running, middle distance events and was once ranked first in the world in the 1500 metres. She represented Canada at three consecutive Summer Olympics from Athletics at the 1992 Summer Olympics, 1992 to 2000. Pells finished fourth in the Athletics at the 1996 Summer Olympics – Women's 1500 metres, 1500 metre race in 1996 Summer Olympics, Atlanta. Pells won the silver medal in the women's 1500 metres at the Athletics at the 1999 Pan American Games, 1999 Pan American Games in Winnipeg. Pells published her autobiography ''Not About the Medal'' in 2012. In the book, she writes about being the daughter of an alcoholic, experiencing abuse and growing up impoverished. Sarah Schwald (born January 2, 1973 in Bellingham, Washington) is an American middle-distance runner. Collegiate career After winning the 1500 meters at the 1989 USA Junior Championships, Schwald enrolled at the University of Arkansas where she ran both cross county and track. During her four years at Arkansas, Schwald won the 3000 meters at the 1995 NCAA Indoor Championships and won three Southeastern Conference titles—the indoor 3000 meter run and the outdoor 1500 and 3000 meter runs, all in 1995. Olga Nelyubova (; born 12 July 1964) is a Russian female former track and field athlete who competed in middle-distance running events. Her sole international medal came at the 1988 European Athletics Indoor Championships, where she was the 800 metres silver medallist behind West Germany's Sabine Zwiener. She was a one-time national champion, winning the 1500 metres at the Russian Championships in 1998. Veerle Dejaeghere (born 1 August 1973, in Izegem) is a Belgian runner, who has specialized in the 3000 metres steeplechase. She represented her country at the Summer Olympics in 2000 and 2008.
