2001 Tennessee Titans Season
The 2001 Tennessee Titans season was the Titans' 42nd season and their 32nd in the National Football League. The team won only seven games, and failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 1998. After finishing 13–3 in the two prior seasons, defensive coordinator Gregg Williams was hired as the new head coach of the Buffalo Bills. Williams' departure contributed to the dropoff in wins, as the Titans went from second in scoring defense in 2000 to 25th in 2001. AFC Central
The American Football Conference – Northern Division or AFC North is one of the four divisions of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the National Football League (NFL). The division was adopted after the restructuring of the 2002 NFL season, when the league realigned divisions after expanding to 32 teams. This is the only division in the NFL in which no member team has hosted a Super Bowl in their stadiums. Formation The AFC North currently has four members: Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, and Pittsburgh Steelers. Justin McCareins
Justin Morgan McCareins (born December 1, 1978) is a former American football wide receiver in the National Football League. He was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the fourth round of the 2001 NFL Draft. He also played for the New York Jets. He played college football at Northern Illinois. Early years McCareins attended Peacock Middle School located in Itasca, Illinois. He would first attended Benet Academy in Lisle, Illinois for one semester before transferring to Naperville North High School where he was a teammate of future NFL running back Chris Brown. McCareins played college football at Northern Illinois University. He is the school's all-time leader in receiving yards, and has the longest reception in school history on a 99-yard touchdown catch vs Ball State. Sherman Smith
Sherman Smith (born November 1, 1954) is a former professional American football running back who played eight seasons for the Seattle Seahawks and San Diego Chargers between 1976 and 1983. He was also the running backs coach for the Seahawks, as well as the former offensive coordinator for the Washington Redskins. After his playing days were over, he embarked upon a second career as a football coach, starting in high school, then college, and finally back in the National Football League (NFL) with the Houston Oilers / Tennessee Titans, the Redskins, and the Seahawks. Mike Heimerdinger
Michael Heimerdinger (October 13, 1952 – September 30, 2011) was an American football coach who held various coordinator and position coach roles during eighteen seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He began his career by coaching high school football in Illinois, and then held positions with six different college football teams. Heimerdinger died at the age of 58 in 2011, after suffering from cancer. Career Heimerdinger was most recently the offensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans, a position he had served in from 2000-2004 and again from 2008-2010. Prior to serving in this position, Heimerdinger was an assistant head coach for the Denver Broncos succeeding Gary Kubiak who took the head coaching position with the Houston Texans. Gunther Cunningham
Gunther Cunningham (June 19, 1946 – May 11, 2019) was an American football head coach. He served as the Kansas City Chiefs head coach for two seasons. He also had two stints as the Chiefs' Defensive Coordinator. He served as an assistant coach for five other National Football League (NFL) teams and four college teams. He coached football for 47 consecutive seasons without taking any years off. George Henshaw
George Henshaw (born January 22, 1948) is a former American football coach. He was the head football coach at the University of Tulsa in 1987, where he compiled a record of 3–8. Henshaw also served as offensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos and New York Giants of the NFL. He played college football at West Virginia University between 1967 and 1969. Adams (born November 22, 1979) is a former American football linebacker in the National Football League (NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles, Miami Dolphins and Cleveland Browns. Daniel Edward Alexander (born March 17, 1978) is a former American football fullback and linebacker. He was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the sixth round of the 2001 NFL Draft. He played college football at Nebraska. Alexander also played for the Jacksonville Jaguars, St. Louis Rams, Nashville Kats and Chicago Rush.
