2001 Sudirman Cup
The 2001 Sudirman Cup was the 7th tournament of the World Mixed Team Badminton Championships of Sudirman Cup. It was held from May 28 to June 2, 2001 in Seville, Spain. Teams 53 teams around the world took part in this tournament. Cyprus, Jordan, Mauritius and Nigeria withdrew from the competition. Sudirman Cup
The Sudirman Cup is an international badminton mixed team competition contested by member countries of the Badminton World Federation (BWF), the sport's global governing body. The championship has been awarded every two years since the inaugural tournament in 1989. It used to be held at the same venue for the World Championships in the same year until the International Badminton Federation (now the BWF) decided to split the two tournaments starting from 2003. There are five matches in every Sudirman Cup tie which consists of men and women's singles, men and women's doubles and mixed doubles. The cup is named after Dick Sudirman, a former Indonesian badminton player and the founder of the Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI). The current champion is China, which won its 12th title at the 2021 tournament in Finland. Kim Dong-moon
Kim Dong-moon (Hangul: 김동문, Hanja: 金東文; born 22 September 1975) is a retired South Korean badminton player who won major titles between the mid-1990s and the mid-2000s (decade), and widely regarded as one of finest men's doubles and mixed doubles players in badminton history. Kim captured the world attention when he unexpectedly winning the gold medal in the mixed doubles event with Gil Young-ah at the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics. On his path to greatness, he won gold medals both in men's and mixed doubles at the 1999 World Championships. Kim and Ra Kyung-min, partnered up to become one of the strongest mixed doubles pairings of that time. They did not drop a single match from April to November in 2003. They won 10 straight victorious tournaments: 9 consecutive Grand Prix events and one World Championship title. Zhang Jun (badminton)
Zhang Jun (; born November 26, 1977 in Suzhou, Jiangsu) is a former male badminton player from the People's Republic of China. He is now a coach with the Chinese national team following his retirement from international play. Career As a doubles specialist, the solidly built Zhang Jun won several international men's doubles titles with compatriot Zhang Wei including the Swiss (1998), China (2001), and Thailand (2005) Opens. However, the majority of his titles, and the most prestigious ones, came in mixed doubles with the formidable Gao Ling. These included consecutive gold medals at the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games, earned by surviving a number of tight matches, particularly in 2000 when they were on the verge of elimination in the semifinals. Lee Kyung-won
Lee Kyung-won (Hangul: 이경원, Hanja: 李敬元; ; born 21 January 1980 in Andong, Gyeongsangbuk-do) is a badminton player from South Korea. Lee was the women's doubles gold medallist at the 2002 Asian Games. She competed at the Olympic Games in 2000, 2004, and 2008, winning women's doubles bronze in 2004, and silver in 2008. She captured the women's doubles gold at the Asian Championships in 2003, 2004 and 2005. Eti Tantra
Eti Lesmina Tantra (; born 14 October 1975), is an Indonesian badminton player of Chinese descent. She has represented Indonesia and the United States in international tournaments. Career Tantri who affiliate with Tangkas club, was selected to join the national team in 1993. She won her first title in 1997 India Open in the women's doubles partnered with Cynthia Tuwankotta. Together with Tuwankotta, she also won the 1997 French Open, becoming the first Indonesians to win a women's doubles title, and at the 1997 Polish Open. Deyana Gresye Susanti Lomban (born 27 January 1976) is a former Indonesian badminton player who also play for the PB Jaya Raya. She competed at the 2000 Summer Olympics in the women's doubles event partnered with Eliza Nathanael. Lee Dong-soo ( ; born 7 June 1974) is a former badminton player from South Korea who affiliate with the Samsung Electro-Mechanics. Competition Lee competed for Korea in badminton at the 2004 Summer Olympics in men's doubles with partner Yoo Yong-sung. They defeated José Antonio Crespo and Sergio Llopis of Spain in the first round and Luluk Hadiyanto and Alvent Yulianto of Indonesia in the second. In the quarterfinals, Lee and Yoo beat Choong Tan Fook and Lee Wan Wah of Malaysia 11-15, 15-11, 15-9. Candra Wijaya
Rafael Candra Wijaya (; born 16 September 1975) is a retired Indonesian badminton player. Career Wijaya started his career in badminton at the age of five, motivated by his brother Indra Wijaya and later joined a club in Cirebon. His father, Hendra Wijaya, then took him to a club Pelita Jakarta when he was fourteen. In 1991, he was selected to join the national team. In 1998, he moved to Jaya Raya Jakarta. Wijaya is a doubles specialist. He has been rated among the best men's doubles players in the world for over a decade. Jun Jae-Youn or Jeon Jae-Yeon (born 9 February 1983) is a South Korean badminton player. Born in Pocheon, Jun was part of the Korea National Sport University. She was the champion at the 2004 Asian Championships in the women's singles event. She played badminton at the 2004 Summer Olympics for South Korea, defeating Charmaine Reid of Canada in the first round but losing to Cheng Shao-chieh of Chinese Taipei in the round of 16. Lidya Djaelawijaya (born 15 October 1974) is a former Indonesian badminton player, who play in the singles event. She won the Russian Open in 1995, and Indonesia Open in 1999.
