2001 PBA All-Star Weekend
The 2001 PBA All-Star Game is the annual All-Star Weekend of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). The All-Star game was held on July 22, 2001 at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City. Skills Challenge winners Slam Dunk Competition: San Miguel's Joey Mente won the slam dunk title, Mente soared over Olsen Racela's bowed head to deliver the winning slam and the only perfect score of the night as he beat Alaska's John Arigo. Buzzer-beating competition winner: Jayjay Helterbrand of Barangay Ginebra, over Olsen Racela, Jason Webb and Patrick Fran. Three-Point Shootout winner: Boyet Fernandez of Purefoods. Araneta Coliseum
The Araneta Coliseum, also currently known by naming rights sponsorship as Smart Araneta Coliseum, is an indoor multi-purpose sports arena that is part of the Araneta City in the Cubao area of Quezon City, Philippines. Nicknamed as "the Big Dome", it is one of the largest indoor arenas in Asia, and it is also one of the largest clear span domes in the world. The dome measures approximately making it the largest dome in Asia from its opening in 1960 until 2001 when it was surpassed by the Ōita Stadium in Japan with a dome measuring . Tito "Noy" Castillo (born August 21, 1974) is a retired Filipino-American professional basketball player who played for the Shell Velocity and Purefoods Tender Juicy Giants in the Philippine Basketball Association. PBA career Shell Velocity Known as a great 3-point specialist, he was drafted 2nd overall by the San Miguel Beermen in 1998 but was traded on draft day to the Formula Shell Zoom Masters for 1st overall pick Danny Ildefonso. He would have a decent career with the Zoom Masters for two years as starting point guard. Kerby Mariano Raymundo (born January 19, 1981) is a Filipino former professional basketball player. He last played for the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). Known as The Kid, he was a former star player with the Letran Knights during his NCAA years. Amateur career It was only in Raymundo's junior year in Jose Rizal Institute (High school) that he started playing basketball. Donaldo "Dondon" Cabañes Hontiveros (born June 1, 1977) is a Filipino politician and former professional basketball player. He is a member of the Cebu City Council since June 30, 2022 and previously from 2019 to 2021. He was the Vice Mayor of Cebu City from November 2021 to June 2022, by virtue of succession due to the death of Mayor Edgardo Labella. Rudolph Conse "Rudy" Hatfield II (born September 13, 1977) is an American-Filipino retired professional basketball player who played for Laguna Lakers in the Metropolitan Basketball Association and for Tanduay Rhum Masters, Pop Cola Panthers, Coca-Cola Tigers and Barangay Ginebra San Miguel in the Philippine Basketball Association. Don Carlos Armand Crisostomo Allado (born June 10, 1977) is a Filipino basketball coach, former professional player, and politician. A power forward, he played college basketball for the De La Salle Green Archers, where he won back-to-back UAAP championships, most valuable player (MVP) awards, and Finals MVP awards in 1998 and 1999. Jong Uichico
Joseph Enrique Uichico (born July 15, 1962), better known as Jong Uichico, is a Filipino professional basketball coach who last coached the Bataan Risers in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League. Uichico is a former Philippine national team Youth member and a former player and head coach of the La Salle Green Archers in the UAAP before replacing Ron Jacobs as SMB coach in 1999. Albert Henry "Ali" Peek (born February 13, 1975) is a Filipino-American retired professional basketball player who played in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). Edward "Poch" Juinio (born May 25, 1973) is a Filipino retired former professional basketball player of the Philippine Basketball Association. He played most of his seasons with Alaska Aces and won numerous championships. Professional career Alaska Milkmen A former 6'5" standout of the UP Fighting Maroons, Juinio was drafted by Alaska as the 5th overall pick in the 1994 PBA Draft.
