2001 William & Mary Tribe Football Team
The 2001 William & Mary Tribe football team represented the College of William & Mary as member of the Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) during the 2001 NCAA Division I-AA football season. Led by Jimmye Laycock in his 22nd year as head coach, William & Mary finished the season with an overall record of 8–4 and a mark of 7–2 in A-10 play, sharing the conference title with Hofstra, Maine, and Villanova. The Villanova Wildcats football program represents Villanova University in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS, known as Division I-AA until 2006). Hofstra Pride Football
The Hofstra Pride football (formerly the Hofstra Flying Dutchmen) program was the intercollegiate American football team for Hofstra University, located on Long Island in Hempstead, New York. Hofstra competed in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) and were members of the Colonial Athletic Association. Its first football team was fielded in 1937, and the program compiled a record through 2009. The nickname changed to Pride in 2000; following the 2009 season on December 3, the university announced the termination of the football program. Under NCAA rules, football players could transfer to other schools and play immediately, without a waiting period, and scholarship-holders who wished to stay at Hofstra were permitted to keep their scholarships. The Southland Conference, abbreviated as SLC, is a collegiate athletic conference which operates in the South Central United States (specifically Texas and Louisiana).
