Point Theatre
The Point Theatre (sometimes referred to as the Point Depot or simply as the Point) was a concert and events venue in Dublin, Ireland, that operated from 1988 to 2007, visited by in excess of 2 million people. It was located on the North Wall Quay of the River Liffey, amongst the Dublin Docklands. The Point was closed in the middle of 2007 for a major redevelopment and underwent a rebranding as The O2 in July 2008. Prior to the redevelopment, the seated capacity was 6,300; the rebranded O2 has a fully seated only capacity of 9,000. Following the acquisition of O2 Ireland by 3 Ireland, it was renamed in September 2014 as the 3Arena. The Point was noted for its flexible seating configurations – over the years it served not only as a music venue, but had also been turned into an ice rink, a boxing arena, a conference hall, an exhibition centre, a wrestling ring, a theatre, an opera house and a three ring circus. Relish (band)
Relish are a Northern Irish rock band composed of brothers Ken (vocals and guitar) and Carl (drums, keyboards and vocals) Papenfus, and until 2013 Darren Campbell (bass and vocals). They have released three albums: 2001's "''Wildflowers''" (Platinum), "''Karma Calling''" (Gold) in 2003 (both of these were on the EMI Ireland label), and ''"Connected"'' in 2011. "Wildflowers , Karma Calling was released as a double album package by Universal Records (Ireland) in 2015. The band are perhaps best known for the songs "Rainbow Zephyr" and "You I'm Thinking Of", from their debut album, ''Wildflowers''. The former (a big Irish radio hit in its own right) was covered by Westlife with slightly changed lyrics and released as a single "Hey Whatever", which went on to become an international hit. Red Dirt Girl
''Red Dirt Girl'' is the nineteenth studio album by American country artist Emmylou Harris, released on September 12, 2000 by Nonesuch Records. The album was a significant departure for Harris, as eleven of the twelve tracks were written or co-written by her. At the time, she was best known for covering other songwriters' work. Prior to this album, only two of Harris' LPs had more than two of her own compositions (''Gliding Bird'' in 1969, and ''The Ballad of Sally Rose'' in 1985). Her next album, ''Stumble into Grace'', was also written by Harris. The album contains "Bang the Drum Slowly", a song Guy Clark helped Harris write as an elegy for her father. The album peaked at number 3 on the ''Billboard (magazine), Billboard'' country album charts and won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album in 2001. ''Hot Press'' is a fortnightly music and politics magazine based in Dublin, Ireland, founded in June 1977. The magazine has been edited since its inception by Niall Stokes. History ''Hot Press'' was founded in June 1977 by Niall Stokes, who continues to be its editor to the present day. D'Unbelievables
D'Unbelievables are a comedy duo from Ireland formed in the late 1980s by Pat Shortt and Jon Kenny in Limerick. Together they created characters which could be seen on every street corner and pub in Ireland. They toured extensively all over Ireland for almost a decade until Jon Kenny was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Disease in 2000. He has recovered and can be now seen in gigs all over Ireland. Pat Shortt meanwhile launched his solo career in the late 90s and was the main force behind the success of the RTÉ comedy series ''Killinaskully''. In December 2005, three of their past shows, "D'Video", "D'Telly", and "D'Mother", were released on DVD for the first time. The DVD was entitled ''D'Collection''. Samantha Mumba
Samantha Tamania Anne Cecilia Mumba (born 18 January 1983) is an Irish singer-songwriter, dancer, actress, fashion model and TV presenter. In 2000, at the age of 17, she shot to fame with the release of her debut single "Gotta Tell You", which reached the top five in Ireland, United Kingdom and the United States. It has since been listed in ''Billboard''s 100 Greatest Choruses of the 21st Century. Her album of the same name was released later that year and reached number four in Ireland and number nine in the UK. She has had seven top five hits in Ireland and six top ten hits in the United Kingdom. ''Gotta Tell You'' is the debut studio album by Irish singer Samantha Mumba. It was released on 31 October 2000 by Polydor Records, Interscope Records, Wildcard Records and A&M Records. Album covers The original album cover featured a darkly lit close-up shot of Mumba's face. A&M Records president Ron Fair made the decision to release the album in the United States with a new cover which had Mumba positioned in front of a bright colourful portrait, as he wanted it to be easily identifiable and express Mumba's true personality. The re-issued album incorporated two re-recorded songs; "Baby, Come Over (This Is Our Night)" and "The Boy", which featured Will.i.am from The Black Eyed Peas, while two songs were removed. Christy Moore
Christopher Andrew "Christy" Moore (born 7 May 1945) is an Irish folk singer, songwriter and guitarist. In addition to his significant success as an individual, he is one of the founding members of Planxty and Moving Hearts. His first album, ''Paddy'' ''on the Road'' was recorded with Dominic Behan in 1969. In 2007, he was named as Ireland's greatest living musician in RTÉ's People of the Year Awards. Early life Moore was born in Newbridge, County Kildare, Ireland and attended Newbridge College. His mother Nancy Moore was a Fine Gael election candidate. He was originally a bank employee who wanted to express himself using traditional music. David Fanning (born 27 February 1956) is an Irish television and radio broadcaster, rock journalist, DJ, film critic and author. Fanning currently hosts weekend midday magazine/chat show ''The Dave Fanning Show'' on the Irish national radio station RTÉ 2fm and a number of RTÉ Radio 1 programmes. Mark McCabe
Mark McCabe (born 10 May 1978) is an Irish music producer, remixer, radio DJ and club DJ, from Dublin. In 2000, he released "Maniac 2000" and it went to number one, as the second biggest-selling record ever in Ireland. In 2017, McCabe teamed up with the Sunset Bros, to release the record "Im Feelin It", which went on to hit thirty million streams on Spotify. McCabe has mixed the opening sequence for events, such as the Special Olympics in 2003, the 2005 and 2007 Saint Patrick's Festivals Skyfest.
