2001 Galleryfurniture.com Bowl
The 2001 Galleryfurniture.com Bowl was the second edition of the college football bowl game (renamed the Houston Bowl the following year), and was played at the Reliant Astrodome in Houston, Texas. The game pitted the Texas A&M Aggies from the Big 12 Conference and the TCU Horned Frogs from Conference USA (C-USA). The game was the final competition of the 2001 football season for each team and resulted in a 28–9 Texas A&M victory. The teams were rivals in the Southwest Conference for many years. Conference USA
Conference USA (C-USA or CUSA) is an intercollegiate athletic conference whose current member institutions are located within the Southern United States. The conference participates in the NCAA's Division I in all sports. C-USA's offices are located in Dallas, Texas. History C-USA was founded in 1995 by the merger of the Metro Conference and Great Midwest Conference, two Division I conferences that did not sponsor football. However, the merger did not include either Great Midwest member Dayton or Metro members VCU and Virginia Tech. Since this left an uneven number of schools in the conference, Houston of the dissolving Southwest Conference was extended an invitation and agreed to join following the SWC's disbanding at the end of the 1995–96 academic year. 2001 TCU Horned Frogs Football Team
The 2001 TCU Horned Frogs football team represented Texas Christian University as a member of Conference USA (C-USA) during the 2001 NCAA Division I-A football season. Led by first-year head coach Gary Patterson, the Horned Frogs compiled an overall record of 6–6 with a mark of 4–3 in conference play, tying for fifth place in C-USA. TCU was invited to the Galleryfurniture.com Bowl, where they lost Texas A&M. The team played home games at Amon G. Carter Stadium on campus in Fort Worth, Texas. 2001–02 NCAA Football Bowl Games
The 2001–02 NCAA football bowl games concluded the 2001 NCAA Division I-A football season. The Miami Hurricanes won the BCS National Championship Game over the Nebraska Cornhuskers, 37–14. A total of 25 team-competitive games were played—starting on December 18, 2001, and ending on January 3, 2002—with participation by 50 bowl-eligible teams. North Texas entered the New Orleans Bowl with a losing record of 5–6; they were able to play in a bowl game by being co-champions of the Sun Belt Conference, having compiled a 5–1 conference record. An additional five all-star games were played, ending with the Hula Bowl on February 2, 2002. One bowl game was established for the 2001–02 season, the New Orleans Bowl. Mark Farris
Mark Allen Farris (born February 9, 1975) is a former quarterback for Texas A&M University and a former shortstop in the Pittsburgh Pirates minor league system. He is the son of Nancy and Phil Farris of Angleton, Texas. He has two daughters, Kameryn and Kendyll. He is married to Amanda Payan Farris and they have a son, Deacon. High school career Farris was an all-district QB for Angleton High School in 1992 and 1993, and was the district MVP in 1993. Southwest Conference
The Southwest Conference (SWC) was an NCAA Division I college athletic conference in the United States that existed from 1914 to 1996. Composed primarily of schools from Texas, at various times the conference included schools from Oklahoma and Arkansas. For most of its history, the core members of the conference were Texas-based schools plus one in Arkansas: Baylor University, Rice University, Southern Methodist University, Texas A&M University, Texas Christian University, Texas Tech University, the University of Arkansas and the University of Texas at Austin. The 2001 NCAA Division I-A football season was the first college football season of the 21st century. It ended with the University of Miami winning the national title for the fifth time. The Hurricanes were led by Larry Coker, who was in his first year as head coach after five years as Miami's offensive coordinator under Butch Davis and became the first head coach since 1989's Dennis Erickson from the University of Miami to win a national title in his first season.
