2001 European Figure Skating Championships
The 2001 European Figure Skating Championships was a senior international figure skating competition in the 2000–01 season. Medals were awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. The event was held at the Ondrej Nepela Ice Rink in Bratislava, Slovakia from January 21 to 28, 2001. Qualifying The competition was open to skaters from European ISU member nations who had reached the age of 15 before 1 July 2000. The corresponding competition for non-European skaters was the 2001 Four Continents Championships. National associations selected their entries based on their own criteria. Based on the results of the 2000 European Championships, each country was allowed between one and three entries per discipline. The 2001 Four Continents Figure Skating Championships (4CC) is an annual figure skating competition. It was held at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, USA on February 7–10. Medals were awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. It was the official site-testing competition before the 2002 Winter Olympics, which would be held in that arena. Vitaliy Danylchenko ( uk, Віталій Данильченко, born 4 December 1978 in Dnipropetrovsk) is a Ukrainian former competitive figure skater. He is the 1999 Nebelhorn Trophy silver medalist and a five-time Ukrainian national champion. He placed as high as 6th at the European Championships and 13th at the World Championships. Vitaliy was a member of the Olympic Team for Ukraine. Vitaliy performed as a principal skater in professional ice shows for many years. As of 2022, Vitaliy is a full time coach in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA. He coaches as part of Elite Training Team. Vitaliy previously coached in New Jersey and California. Vakhtang Murvanidze ( ka, ვახტანგ მურვანიძე; born 13 October 1979 in Tbilisi) is a Georgian former competitive figure skater. He is a multiple Georgian national champion and represented Georgia twice at the Olympics, in 2002 (17th) and 2006 (28th). His highest placement at the European Championships was 7th in 2003. He is a four-time national champion and competed for Slovakia at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, where he placed 26th. Stéphane Lambiel (born 2 April 1985) is a Swiss former competitive figure skater who now works as a coach and choreographer. He is a two-time (2005–2006) World champion, the 2006 Olympic silver medalist, a two-time (2005, 2007) Grand Prix Final champion, and a nine-time (2001–08, 2010) Swiss national champion. Frédéric Dambier
Frédéric Dambier (born 26 December 1977) is a French figure skater. He is a four-time French national silver medalist and competed at two Olympic Games. He twice placed fourth at the European Figure Skating Championships. He is the first French skater to land a quadruple salchow in competition. Career Dambier started skating when he was about six or seven years old when a neighbor took him to the small ice rink of Joué les Tours. In practice, he landed his first triple jump, the salchow, at 14, and his first quad salchow when he was 19. He became the first French skater to perform the quad salchow in competition when he landed it at the 1999 Ondrej Nepela Memorial. Ivan Dinev ( bg, Иван Динев; born November 8, 1978) is a Bulgarian former competitive figure skater. He is a three-time Grand Prix medalist, an 11-time Bulgarian national champion, and competed at three Olympics. Career In the 1997–98 season, Dinev won two gold medals on the ISU Junior Series and qualified for the Final where he took the silver medal. He competed at his first Olympics in 1998, finishing 11th. At the 1999 World Championships, Dinev became the first Bulgarian skater to land a quadruple toe loop in competition. Andrejs Vlaščenko (russian: Андрей Влащенко; born 15 June 1974) is a figure skater who represented Latvia (1992–94) and Germany (1994–04). Competing for Germany, he won two Grand Prix medals – bronze at both the 2001 Trophee Lalique and at the 1998 Sparkassen Cup on Ice – and became a four-time German national champion. In 1998, he placed fourth at the European Championships in Milan and fifth at the World Championships in Minneapolis. Sergei Dmitriyevich Davydov (russian: Серге́й Дмитриевич Давыдов, born 2 March 1979 in Rostov-on-Don) is a former competitive figure skater who represented Belarus and Russia. For Belarus, he is the 2006 Cup of China silver medalist, two-time Nebelhorn Trophy champion, and eight-time (2001–2008) Belarusian national champion. Alexander Abt
Alexander "Sasha" Viktorovich Abt (russian: Александр "Саша" Викторович Абт; born October 22, 1976) is a Russian figure skater and coach. He is a two-time European medalist and placed fifth at the 2002 Winter Olympics. Career Abt's first experience with figure skating came at the age of six when his grandmother took him to a rink. Sergei Volkov coached him early on but he began suffering from cancer and sent Abt to be trained by Rafael Arutyunyan before he died. Soon after, Abt began to make a name for himself on the junior circuit and won the silver medal at the 1991 World Junior Championships. Abt underwent surgery for a knee problem early in his career.
