2001 Cincinnati Reds Season
The 2001 Cincinnati Reds season was the 132nd season for the franchise in Major League Baseball. It consisted of the Cincinnati Reds attempting to win the National League Central. The Reds were managed by Bob Boone. National League Central
The National League Central is one of Major League Baseball's six divisions. This division was created in 1994, by moving two teams from the National League West (the Cincinnati Reds and the Houston Astros) and three teams from the National League East (the Chicago Cubs, the Pittsburgh Pirates, and the St. Louis Cardinals). When the division was created in 1994, the Pirates were originally supposed to stay in the East while the Atlanta Braves were to be moved to the Central from the West. However, the Braves, wanting to form a natural rivalry with the expansion Florida Marlins, requested to remain in the East. Despite the Marlins offering to go to the Central, the Pirates instead gave up their spot in the East to the Braves. Since then, the Pirates have tried several times unsuccessfully to be placed back in the East. Donnie Sadler
Donnie Lamont Sadler (born June 17, 1975) is an American former professional baseball utility player. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1998–2007. Career An alumnus of Valley Mills High School in Valley Mills, Texas (where he was an all-state shortstop), Sadler is small in stature, standing at only 5'6" tall and weighing 175 pounds. His cousin, Ray Sadler, is an outfielder in the Tampa Bay Rays organization. Drafted 229th overall by the Boston Red Sox in , Sadler quickly displayed impressive speed in the minor leagues. James Robert Brower (born December 29, 1972) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played for eight Major League Baseball (MLB) teams: the Cleveland Indians (-), Cincinnati Reds (-), Montreal Expos (2002), San Francisco Giants (-), Atlanta Braves (), Baltimore Orioles (), San Diego Padres (2006), and New York Yankees (). Playing career Brower was originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates out of Minnetonka High School in the 56th round of the amateur draft, but did not sign, choosing instead to attend the University of Minnesota, where he was named a Big Ten Conference All-Star and Dave Winfield Award recipient in 1994. Robert Allen Bell (born January 17, 1977) is an American former Major League Baseball pitcher. He made his debut with the Cincinnati Reds in . Career Bell attended Marlboro High School in Marlboro, New York where he was teammates with Dee Brown. He initially committed to play college baseball at Wake Forest. Drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 3rd round of the 1995 Major League Baseball Draft, Bell was considered a Braves top prospect and pitched in their minor league system until November 10, , when he was traded with Denny Neagle and Michael Tucker to the Cincinnati Reds for Bret Boone and Mike Remlinger. Alex Ochoa (; born March 29, 1972) is a Cuban-American former professional baseball outfielder in Major League Baseball and Nippon Professional Baseball. Career Ochoa played in part of eight seasons for the New York Mets, Minnesota Twins, Milwaukee Brewers, Cincinnati Reds, Colorado Rockies and Anaheim Angels. José Antonio Rijo Abreu (born May 13, 1965) is a Dominican former pitcher in Major League Baseball (MLB) who spent the majority of his career with the Cincinnati Reds (1988–1995 and 2001–2002). Originally signed by the New York Yankees as an amateur free agent in 1980, Rijo made his MLB debut with them in 1984, and also played in MLB for the Oakland Athletics.
