The 2001 Carolina Panthers season was Carolina Panthers, the franchise's 7th season in the National Football League (NFL) and the 3rd and final under List of Carolina Panthers head coaches, head coach George Seifert. They tried to improve upon their 7–9 record in 2000 Carolina Panthers season, 2000, and make it to the playoffs for the second time in franchise history; however, the season was a wreck. Not only were the Panthers unable to improve over their previous season, but they deteriorated even further, dropping to 1–15. The Panthers defeated the 2001 Minnesota Vikings season, Minnesota Vikings in their opening game of the season, and then became the first team in the Super Bowl era to lose fifteen consecutive games afterwards. The National Football Conference - Western Division or NFC West is one of the four Division (sport), divisions of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL). It currently has four members: the Arizona Cardinals, the Los Angeles Rams, the San Francisco 49ers, and the Seattle Seahawks. The division was formed in 1967 as the National Football League Coastal Division, keeping with the theme of having all of the league's divisions starting with the letter "C."
