2001 Cannes Film Festival
The 54th Cannes Film Festival started on 14 May and ran until 20 May 2001. Norwegian actress and director Liv Ullmann was the Jury President. The Palme d'Or went to the Italian film ''The Son's Room'' by Nanni Moretti. The festival opened with ''Moulin Rouge!'', directed by Baz Luhrmann and closed with '' Les âmes fortes'', directed by Raúl Ruiz. The Un Certain Regard section opened with '''R Xmas'' directed by Abel Ferrara and closed with ''The Words of My Father'' (''Le parole di mio padre'') directed by Francesca Comencini. Charlotte Rampling
Tessa Charlotte Rampling (born 5 February 1946) is an English actress, known for her work in European arthouse films in English, French, and Italian. An icon of the Swinging Sixties, she began her career as a model. She was cast in the role of Meredith in the 1966 film ''Georgy Girl'', which starred Lynn Redgrave. Edward Yang (; November 6, 1947 – June 29, 2007) was a Taiwanese filmmaker. Yang, along with fellow auteurs Hou Hsiao-hsien and Tsai Ming-liang, was one of the leading film-makers of the Taiwanese New Wave and Taiwanese cinema. Moufida Tlatli ( aeb, مفيدة التلاتلي; 4 August 19477 February 2021) was a Tunisian film director, screenwriter, and editor. She is noted for her breakthrough film '' The Silences of the Palace'' in 1994, which won several international awards. She went on to direct two more films: '' The Season of Men'' (2000) and '' Nadia and Sarra'' (2004). Philippe Labro (born 27 August 1936) is a French author, journalist and film director. He has worked for RTL, ''Paris Match'', TF1 and Antenne 2. He is a laureate of the Prix Interallié, a French literary distinction founded in 1930, which was awarded for «L'Étudiant étranger» in 1986. At the age of eighteen, he left France to study at Washington and Lee University in Virginia. He then travelled across the United States. On his return to Europe, he became a reporter. From 1960 to 1962, during the Algerian war, Labro was a member of the military. He then returned to his journalistic activities. While covering the assassination of John F.
