The 2000–2001 Tetley's Bitter Cup was the 30th edition of England's rugby union club competition. Newcastle Falcons won the competition defeating Harlequins in the final. Anglo-Welsh Cup
The Anglo-Welsh Cup (), was a cross-border rugby union knock-out cup competition that featured the 12 Premiership Rugby clubs and the four Welsh regions. It was a created as a replacement for the RFU Knockout Cup, which featured only English clubs. The competition was replaced by the Premiership Rugby Cup, involving only the 12 English Premiership clubs, beginning with the 2018–19 season. History Background RFU Knockout Cup From 1971 to 2005, English clubs played in the RFU Knockout Cup. At its formation, it was the highest honour that a club could win, as there were no nationally organised leagues until merit leagues were introduced in 1984, followed by the full national league pyramid in 1987. Doddie Weir
George Wilson "Doddie" Weir (4 July 1970 – 26 November 2022) was a Scottish rugby union player who played as a lock. He made 61 international appearances for the Scotland national team and represented the British & Irish Lions. With the change to professional rugby, he was recruited to Newcastle Falcons playing 1997–2002 and he captained the club. He returned to the Borders in 2002 but retired from professional rugby in 2004. In 2016 he was diagnosed with motor neuron disease (MND). He became involved with campaigning and fundraising, setting up a foundation named "My Name'5 Doddie" which had raised £8 million for MND research by the time that he died from this condition. Brendon Wiremu Daniel (born 19 July 1977) is a New Zealand former professional rugby union player. Biography Daniel was born in Te Kūiti and educated at St Stephen's School outside Auckland. Rugby career A speedy winger, Daniel played for the Bay of Plenty in 1996 to 1997, before making the decision at age 19 to pursue a professional career in England, where he was signed by Saracens. William John Heaton Greenwood, MBE (born 20 October 1972) is an English former rugby union player who played for Leicester Tigers and Harlequins and was a member of England's 2003 World Cup-winning team and the 1997 British & Irish Lions. Steve Bates (born 4 March 1963) is a rugby coach and retired from former rugby union player. He played at scrum-half for London Wasps and was capped once for the England national rugby union team. Hugh Vyvyan
Hugh Donnithorne Vyvyan (born 8 September 1976 in Guildford) is a former rugby union player who played at lock for Newcastle Falcons, Saracens and England. He stands at 6'6" and weighs around 18 stone. The former England fullback Jon Callard heavily influenced Vyvyan's early career while at Downside School, moving him from fly-half to number 8. Gareth Maclure (born 17 December 1979 in Bury, England) is a former professional rugby union footballer. His regular playing position was on the wing. Liam James Botham (born 26 August 1977) is a former English sportsman who played both codes of rugby football and cricket. He is the son of England cricketer Ian Botham, the Baron Botham. Ross Nesdale (born 30 July 1969 in New Zealand) is a retired Irish rugby union footballer who played as a hooker. Career Nesdale won 13 caps for Ireland between 1997 and 1999, and was part of the squad at the 1999 Rugby World Cup where he played in two matches.
