The 2000–01 NCAA football bowl games concluded the 2000 NCAA Division I-A football season. In the third year of the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) era, Oklahoma defeated Florida State in the 2001 Orange Bowl, designated as the BCS National Championship Game for the 2000 season. A total of 25 bowl games were played between December 20, 2000, and January 3, 2001, by 50 bowl-eligible teams. 2001 Orange Bowl
The 2001 Orange Bowl, designated as the BCS National Championship Game, was a college football bowl game played to determine a national champion in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) for the 2000 season. It was played at Pro Player Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, on January 3, 2001, with kickoff at 8:00 p.m. EST and television coverage by ABC. The 67th playing of the Orange Bowl, it was the culminating game of the 2000–01 bowl season. 2000 Florida State Seminoles Football Team
The 2000 Florida State Seminoles football team represented Florida State University in the 2000 NCAA Division I-A football season. The team was coached by Bobby Bowden and played their home games at Doak Campbell Stadium. The Seminoles reached the title game for the third straight year and quarterback Chris Weinke won the school's second Heisman Trophy. Regular season As a senior in 2000, Chris Weinke led the nation in passing with 4,167 yards and won the Heisman Trophy, awarded to college football's best player, as well as the Davey O'Brien Award and the Johnny Unitas Award. He also led the Seminoles to the Orange Bowl for their third title game in as many years, where they lost 13–2 to the Oklahoma Sooners. Sam Boyd Stadium
Sam Boyd Stadium (formerly the Las Vegas Silver Bowl) is a football stadium in the western United States, located in Whitney, Nevada, an unincorporated community in the Las Vegas Valley. It honors Sam Boyd (1910–1993), a major figure in the hotel and casino industry in Las Vegas. The 2000 TCU Horned Frogs football team represented Texas Christian University (TCU) in the 2000 NCAA Division I-A football season. 2000 Southern Miss Golden Eagles Football Team
The 2000 Southern Miss Golden Eagles football team represented the University of Southern Mississippi in the 2000 NCAA Division I-A football season. The Golden Eagles were led by head coach Jeff Bower and played their home games at M. M. Roberts Stadium. They were a member of Conference USA. For the second time in three years, the Golden Eagles earned a preseason top 25 ranking, coming in at No. 23. Ladd–Peebles Stadium (formerly Ernest F. Ladd Memorial Stadium) is a stadium located in Mobile, Alabama. Opened in 1948, it has a seating capacity of 33,471. The 2000 Mobile Alabama Bowl was an American college football bowl game. It was part of the 2000 NCAA Division I-A football season, and was the second edition of the game. With title sponsorship from GMAC (now Ally Financial) it was officially called the GMAC Mobile Alabama Bowl. It was played on December 20, 2000, and featured the Southern Miss Golden Eagles, and the TCU Horned Frogs. TCU started the scoring with a 3-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Casey Printers to wide receiver George Layne to open up a 7–0 lead.
