2000–01 Golden State Warriors Season
The 2000–01 NBA season was the Warriors' 55th season in the National Basketball Association, and 39th in the San Francisco Bay Area. During the off-season, the Warriors re-signed free agent and former All-Star forward Chris Mullin, while acquiring Danny Fortson from the Boston Celtics, and Bob Sura from the Cleveland Cavaliers. However, Fortson only played just six games due to a foot injury. Under new head coach Dave Cowens, the Warriors won their season opener defeating the Phoenix Suns 96–94 on October 31, but their struggles continued as they went on a 7-game losing streak afterwards. Mullin, Sura, Larry Hughes, Chris Mills, Erick Dampier, Adonal Foyle and rookie center Marc Jackson all missed large parts of the season due to injuries. Dave Cowens
David William Cowens ( ; born October 25, 1948) is an American former professional basketball player and NBA head coach. At , he played the center position and occasionally played power forward. Cowens spent most of his playing career with the Boston Celtics. He was the 1971 NBA Rookie of the Year and the 1973 NBA Most Valuable Player. Cowens won NBA championships as a member of the Celtics in 1974 and 1976. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1991. Cowens has also held coaching positions in the NBA, CBA, and WNBA. Antawn Jamison
Antawn Cortez Jamison (; born June 12, 1976) is an American former professional basketball player who played 16 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He serves as director of pro personnel for the Washington Wizards. Jamison played college basketball for the North Carolina Tar Heels, being named national player of the year in 1998. He was selected by the Toronto Raptors as the fourth overall pick of the 1998 NBA draft before being traded to the Golden State Warriors for former Tar Heel teammate Vince Carter. The 2000–01 NBA season was the 31st season of the National Basketball Association in Cleveland, Ohio. The Cavaliers had the eighth pick in the 2000 NBA draft, and selected Jamal Crawford from the University of Michigan, but soon traded him to the Chicago Bulls in exchange for top draft pick Chris Mihm. During the off-season, the team acquired Chris Gatling and Clarence Weatherspoon from the Miami Heat, Matt Harpring from the Orlando Magic, and Robert Traylor from the Milwaukee Bucks, while signing free agent Bimbo Coles. The 2000–01 NBA season was the Bulls' 35th season in the National Basketball Association. In the 2000 NBA draft, the Bulls selected Marcus Fizer from Iowa State with the fourth overall pick, and selected Chris Mihm from the University of Texas at Austin with the seventh pick, but soon traded Mihm to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for top draft pick Jamal Crawford. During the off-season, the team signed free agents Ron Mercer, and Brad Miller. The Bulls continued to struggle losing 24 of their first 27 games, then later holding a 6–42 record at the All-Star break, as they finished with 15 wins and 67 losses, the worst record in the Central Division and the worst league record. 2000–01 Charlotte Hornets Season
The 2000–01 NBA season was the thirteenth season for the Charlotte Hornets in the National Basketball Association. During the off-season, the Hornets acquired Jamal Mashburn, P.J. Brown and Otis Thorpe from the Miami Heat, and re-signed free agent Hersey Hawkins. The team won four of their first five games, then lost five straight, but then went on a six-game winning streak. The team posted two 7-game winning streaks in December, and between February and March, and held a 26–25 record at the All-Star break. The 2000–01 NBA season was the 55th season for the Boston Celtics in the National Basketball Association. During the off-season, the Celtics acquired Bryant Stith from the Denver Nuggets, and signed free agents Randy Brown, Chris Carr, and rookie center Mark Blount. Prior to the start of the season, the Celtics were nearly hit with tragedy when Paul Pierce was stabbed 11 times in the face, neck and back, and had a bottle smashed over his head, and was attacked by three men at the Buzz Club, a late night dance club in the Boston Theater District on September 25, 2000; Tony Battie, Pierce's Celtic teammate, along with Battie's brother, saved him by rushing him to a nearby hospital, where Pierce had to undergo lung surgery to repair the damage. 2000–01 Atlanta Hawks Season
The 2000–01 NBA season was the Hawks' 52nd season in the National Basketball Association, and 33rd season in Atlanta. The Hawks received the sixth pick in the 2000 NBA draft, and selected DerMarr Johnson from the University of Cincinnati. In the off-season, the team signed free agent Matt Maloney, and re-signed Anthony Johnson after a brief stint with the Orlando Magic. Under new head coach Lon Kruger, the Hawks got off to a bad start losing their first seven games, but then posted a 7–7 record in December. Brian Winters
Brian Joseph Winters (born March 1, 1952) is an American former basketball player and coach. Career Winters attended academic and athletic powerhouse Archbishop Molloy High School in Queens, New York, graduating in 1970. He then played collegiately with the University of South Carolina, scoring 1,079 points over his career. While playing for South Carolina, Winters was hampered due to both a severe case of mononucleosis and a series of knee injuries. He was the 12th pick in the 1974 NBA Draft, taken by the Los Angeles Lakers. Winters made the NBA All-Rookie Team with the Lakers before he was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks as part of the deal that brought future Hall of Fame center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to the West Coast, which Abdul-Jabbar had demanded. Clifford Ray
Clifford Ray (born January 21, 1949) is an American former professional basketball coach and player who is a consultant for the Houston Rockets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played three of his ten seasons in the NBA with the Chicago Bulls from 1971 to 1974, and the other seven with the Golden State Warriors from 1974 to 1981. Career Ray played his college basketball at the University of Oklahoma, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (he can play most woodwind instruments). Mark Osowski
Mark Osowski (February 14, 1963 – August 22, 2004) was a head coach for the Continental Basketball Association's Connecticut Pride, a college coach; and assistant coach for the Charlotte Hornets, the Golden State Warriors, and the Cleveland Cavaliers under Paul Silas. Phil Hubbard
Philip Gregory Hubbard (born December 13, 1956) is an American former professional basketball player and coach. He won a gold medal in the 1976 Summer Olympics and after graduating from the University of Michigan, played for the Detroit Pistons and Cleveland Cavaliers of the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 1979 to 1989. Christopher Bernard Porter (born May 9, 1978) is an American former professional basketball player. Known for his large afro hairstyle and giant vertical leap, he created excitement early in his career with his dunking and rebounding abilities. Largely seen as too undersized to play power forward at the NBA level, his style fit in perfectly with coach Cliff Ellis' style of full court pressure while playing at Auburn.
