2000 In Armenian Football
2000 in Armenian football was the ninth season of independent football after the split-up from the Soviet Union. The Armenian Premier League for 2000 existed of 8 teams of which the lowest ranked teams would relegate to the Armenian First League. The seventh ranked team would enter the promotion/relegation play-off with the second ranked team of the First League. However it was decided that none of the Premier League teams would be relegated and four clubs were promoted from the First League, as well as FC Banants that was given a place at the highest level for the 2001 season. In the last few weeks Ararat, Zvartnots-AAL, Dinamo and Mika all refused to play once or more times as they were demanding fair play and claiming that referees penalised them repeatedly in favour of Araks that eventually won the title due to the awarded 3-0 victories in their favour. Kilikia Football Club ( hy, Կիլիկիա Ֆուտբոլային Ակումբ – Kilikia Futbolayin Akumb), is a defunct Armenian football club from the capital Yerevan. History Beginning Kilikia F.C. was founded in 1992 and participated in the first ever independent Armenian championship. In 1992, they occupied the 12th spot in the table, and were allowed to play in the 1993 Armenian Premier League. At the beginning of 1993, the club merged with fellow financially struggling FC Malatia. The merger lasted only for 1 year, as the team was relegated to the Armenian First League. In the beginning of 1994 the two clubs were separated and disbanded. Revival in 1997 Kilikia F.C. was revived in 1997, but did not participate in the league until year 1999. In 1999, Kilikia F.C. had replaced the financially struggling club Pyunik Yerevan in the Premier League. FC Kotayk
FC Kotayk ( hy, Ֆուտբոլային Ակումբ Կոտայք) is a defunct Armenian football club from the town of Abovyan, Kotayk Province. History Founded in 1955, Kotayk was one of the oldest football clubs in Armenia. After playing several years in the Armenian SSR League as well as the Soviet First League, Kotayk made their debut in the Armenian Premier League in 1992. They participated in the European Cups for the first time in 1996–97. In the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup winning 1–0 at home against AEK Larnaca from Cyprus. Football Club Shirak ( hy, Շիրակ Ֆուտբոլային Ակումբ), commonly known as Shirak, is an Armenian professional sports club based in Gyumri. Shirak is known for its professional football team which is one of the oldest football clubs in Armenia, having been created in 1958. Artur Petrosyan ( hy, Արթուր Պետրոսյան; born 17 December 1971) is a former Armenian football player who played as a midfielder. He worked as the manager of Armenia national football team. He is currently the manager of Grasshopper Club Zürich's under 18 squad. Career Petrosyan was the all-time leading scorer for the Armenia national football team, having scored 11 goals, and had participated in 69 international matches since his debut in the national team's first game in a home friendly match against Moldova on 14 October 1992. Tigran Yesayan ( hy, Տիգրան Եսայան, born 2 June 1972) is an Armenian football former player and coach. He played striker for the Armenia national football team and for several Armenian Premier League clubs. Club career Tigran Yesayan began playing football in 1990 for Zoravana, which competed in the second minor league Soviet First League.
