2000 Watford Council Election
Elections to Watford Borough Council were held on 4 May 2000. One third of the council was up for election and the Labour Party lost overall control of the council to no overall control. Watford
Watford () is a town and borough in Hertfordshire, England, 15 miles northwest of Central London, on the River Colne. Initially a small market town, the Grand Junction Canal encouraged the construction of paper-making mills, print works, and breweries. While industry has declined in Watford, its location near London and transport links has attracted several companies to site their headquarters in the town. Cassiobury Park is a public park that was once the manor estate of the Earls of Essex. The town developed next to the River Colne on land belonging to St Albans Abbey. In the 12th century, a charter was granted allowing a market, and the building of St Mary's Church began. The town grew partly due to travellers going to Berkhamsted Castle and the royal palace at Kings Langley. A mansion was built at Cassiobury in the 16th century. Watford Borough Council Elections
Watford Borough Council elections are held three years out of every four, to elect members of Watford Borough Council in Hertfordshire, England. A third of the council is elected each time. Since the last boundary changes in 2016 the council has comprised 36 councillors representing 12 wards, each of which elects three councillors. In addition to the 36 councillors Watford also has a directly-elected mayor. Elections to Hertfordshire County Council are held in the fourth year of the cycle when there are no borough council elections.
