2000 United States Presidential Election In Hawaii
The 2000 United States presidential election in Hawaii was part of the 2000 United States presidential election which took place on November 7, 2000. Voters chose 4 electors to the Electoral College, who voted for president and vice president. Hawaii was won by Vice President Al Gore by an 18.3% margin of victory. Gore also was victorious in every county and both congressional districts of the state. Governor George W. Bush received 37.5% of the vote, while Nader obtained almost 6%. Bush's best county result came in Honolulu County where he received 39.6% of the vote. This was the first election since its statehood in which it did not support the same candidate as West Virginia. Kalawao County, Hawaii
Kalawao County ( haw, Kalana o Kalawao) is a county in the U.S. state of Hawaii. It is the smallest county in the 50 states by land area and the second-smallest county by population, after Loving County, Texas. The county encompasses the Kalaupapa or Makanalua Peninsula, on the north coast of the island of Molokai. The small peninsula is isolated from the rest of Molokai by cliffs over a quarter-mile high; the only land access is a mule trail. Because of the small population, Kalawao County does not have the same functions as other Hawaii counties. John Hagelin
John Samuel Hagelin (born June 9, 1954) is the leader of the Transcendental Meditation (TM) movement in the United States. He is president of the Maharishi University of Management (MUM) in Fairfield, Iowa, and honorary chair of its board of trustees. The university was established in 1973 by the TM movement's founder, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, to deliver a "consciousness-based education". Hagelin graduated in physics in 1981, and began post-doctoral research at the CERN for less than a year, then at the SLAC. Howard Jay Phillips (February 3, 1941 – April 20, 2013) was an American politician and activist. A political conservative, Phillips was a United States presidential candidate who served as the chairman of The Conservative Caucus, a conservative public policy advocacy group which he founded in 1974. Harry Edson Browne (June 17, 1933 – March 1, 2006) was an American writer, politician, and investment advisor.
