2000 Transnistrian Legislative Election
Parliamentary elections were held in the breakaway republic of Transnistria on 10 December 2000. 42 Out of 43 seats were up for election, most of which were won by independent candidates. Women made up 4 of the 42 elected representatives. 2005 Transnistrian Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Transnistria on 11 December 2005. They were won by the Obnovlenie, an NGO which, together with their allies, beat long-time President Igor Smirnov's Republic party. Following its victory, in June 2006, Obnovlenie was registered as a political party. Results According to PMR data, only 15 of the 43 members of its parliament (MPs) were born in the PMR territory (including 12 in Transnistria proper, and 3 in the Bessarabian area in and around the city of Bender, which is controlled by PMR), while 4 others in the rest of Moldova, with the remainder mainly born in Russia or Ukraine. Grigore Mărăcuţă
Grigory Stepanovich Marakutsa (russian: Григóрий Степáнович Маракуца}, ; born 15 October 1942 in Teiu, Grigoriopol District) is a Transnistrian politician and member of Pridnestrovian Supreme Soviet. He is a member of the Republic party, which is allied with president Igor Smirnov and which suffered a defeat in the 11 December 2005 parliamentary election. Although he retained his seat, his party lost its former majority position in parliament and he had to step down from his previous post as Speaker of Parliament, which was taken over by opposition politician Yevgeny Shevchuk from the Renewal party. Marakutsa is an ethnic Moldovan. Marakutsa was instrumental in the declaration of independence of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic on 2 September 1990. Transnistria
Transnistria, officially the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR), is an unrecognised breakaway state that is internationally recognised as a part of Moldova. Transnistria controls most of the narrow strip of land between the Dniester river and the Moldovan–Ukrainian border, as well as some land on the other side of the river's bank. Its capital and largest city is Tiraspol. Transnistria has been recognised only by three other unrecognised or partially recognised breakaway states: Abkhazia, Artsakh and South Ossetia. Obnovlenie (russian: Обновление, lit=Renewal), officially the Republican Party "Obnovlenie",, , uk, Республіканська партія «Оновлення» is a political party in the unrecognized state of Transnistria, an entity that is internationally recognized as part of Moldova. It has been the parliamentary majority in the Supreme Council since 2005. History The party was founded as a political non-governmental organization in 2000. Then in the legislative elections of 10 December 2000, it won 7 out of 43 seats.
