2000 SEC Baseball Tournament
The 2000 Southeastern Conference Baseball Tournament was held at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium in Hoover, Alabama from May 17th through May 21st. LSU defeated Florida in the championship game, earning the Southeastern Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. LSU would go on to win the national championship at the College World Series in Omaha, NE, their fifth national championship in 10 seasons. Double Elimination Tournament
A double-elimination tournament is a type of elimination tournament competition in which a participant ceases to be eligible to win the tournament's championship upon having lost ''two'' games or matches. It stands in contrast to a single-elimination tournament, in which only ''one'' defeat results in elimination. The Tennessee Volunteers and Lady Volunteers are the 20 male and female varsity college athletics, intercollegiate athletics programs that represent the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee. The Southeastern Conference baseball tournament (sometimes known simply as the SEC Tournament) is the conference tournament in baseball for the Southeastern Conference (SEC). It is a partially double-elimination tournament and seeding is based on regular season conference records. The winner receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division I baseball tournament. The SEC Tournament champion is separate from the conference champion. NCAA Division I Baseball Championship
The NCAA Division I Baseball Championship is held each year from May through June and features 64 college baseball teams in the United States, culminating in the eight-team Men's College World Series at Charles Schwab Field Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska. Tournament format The tournament is unique in that it features four tiers of competition, alternating between double-elimination brackets and best-of-three series. In fact, throughout the entire 64-team tournament, a team can lose a total of four games and still be crowned champions. During team selection, sixteen teams are given "national seeds". Brian Tallet
Brian Curtis Tallet (born September 21, 1977) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. Tallet played the majority of his career for the Toronto Blue Jays. He also played for the St. Louis Cardinals and the Cleveland Indians. He is 6' 6" in height. He pitched for the LSU Tigers and won a national championship in 2000. Career Tallet was drafted in the 1996, 1997, and 1999 drafts by the Marlins, Yankees, and Pirates, respectively, but did not sign with them. Instead, he attended Hill College and Louisiana State University. In 1997 and 1998, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Wareham Gatemen of the Cape Cod Baseball League. Tallet did sign when drafted in the second round (55th overall) of the 2000 MLB draft by the Cleveland Indians. He made his major league debut on September 16, 2002 against the Boston Red Sox. Timothy Lane Olson (born August 1, 1978) is a former American professional baseball player who was an infielder for two Major League Baseball teams in the 2000s. Olson played college baseball for the University of Florida, and thereafter, he played professionally for the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies. Olson attended the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, where he played for coach Andy Lopez's Florida Gators baseball team in 2000. During his single season with the Gators, he had a school-record twenty-nine-game hitting streak, and received a variety of All-American honors.
