2000 New York Jets Season
The 2000 New York Jets season was the 41st season for the team, and the 31st in the National Football League. It was also their first under the ownership of Woody and Christopher Johnson, who purchased the team in January 2000 from the estate of former owner Leon Hess. The team tried to improve upon its 8–8 record from 1999 under new head coach Al Groh, who became the successor for Bill Parcells after Bill Belichick abruptly resigned to take the same position with the New England Patriots. Although they managed to finish one game better than they had in 1999, their 9–7 record (including three losses to close the year) was not enough to make the playoffs. Shortly after the season ended, Groh resigned as coach to take the head coaching position at the University of Virginia, his alma mater. Bradford Banta
Bradford Banta (born December 14, 1970) is a former American football tight end and long snapper in the National Football League (NFL). College career Banta was a two-year starter at tight end for USC Trojans (1989–93), as well as a four-time letter-winner. He earned Honorable Mention All-Pac-10 Conference honors as a junior and senior and received his bachelor's degree in communications with a minor in sociology in 1993. Professional career Banta was drafted in the fourth round of the 1994 NFL Draft, 106 overall, by the Indianapolis Colts. He went on and played from 1994 to 2004 for the Indianapolis Colts, the New York Jets, the Detroit Lions, and the Buffalo Bills. 1999 Florida State Seminoles Football Team
The 1999 Florida State Seminoles football team represented Florida State University during the college football season of 1999. Winning the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championship and winning the 2000 Sugar Bowl BCS National Championship game, the team was coached by Bobby Bowden and played their home games at Doak Campbell Stadium. The team entered the season with high expectations after losing to Tennessee in the inaugural BCS Championship game. Laveranues Leon Coles (; born December 29, 1977) is an American former professional football player who was a wide receiver for 11 seasons in the National Football League (NFL), primarily with the New York Jets. He played college football for the Florida State Seminoles. He was drafted by the New York Jets in the third round of the 2000 NFL Draft. Anthony G. Becht (born August 8, 1977) is a former American football tight end who played in the National Football League (NFL). He is currently the head coach of the St. Louis BattleHawks of the XFL. He was drafted by the New York Jets 27th overall in the 2000 NFL Draft. He played college football at West Virginia. The 1999 Marshall Thundering Herd football team represented Marshall University in the 1999 NCAA Division I-A football season. The Thundering Herd played their home games at Marshall University Stadium in Huntington, West Virginia, and competed in the East Division of the Mid-American Conference (MAC). John Antonio Abraham (born May 6, 1978) is a former American football defensive end and outside linebacker who played 15 seasons in the National Football League (NFL).
