2024–25 Houston Cougars Men's Basketball Team
The 2024–25 Houston Cougars men's basketball team represented the University of Houston in the 2024–25 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Cougars were led by 11th-year head coach Kelvin Sampson. The team played their home games at the Fertitta Center as second-year members of the Big 12 Conference. With a win over Cincinnati on March 1, 2025, the Cougars clinched their second straight outright Big 12 regular season conference championship. Previous season The Cougars finished the 2023–24 season 28–3, 15–3 in Big 12 play to win the regular season championship in their first year in the conference. Kelvin Sampson
Kelvin Dale Sampson (born October 5, 1955) is an American college basketball coach, currently the head coach for the University of Houston of the Big 12 Conference. Early life Sampson was born in Laurinburg, North Carolina, to parents who were members of the Lumbee Native American community of Deep Branch in Robeson County, North Carolina, in which he was reared. Sampson excelled in the classroom and the athletic arena during his prep days at Pembroke High School, in Pembroke, North Carolina. Sampson was captain of his high school basketball team for two years, and played for his father John W. "Ned" Sampson, who was later named to the UNC Pembroke Athletics Hall of Fame. Jamal Daniel Shead ( ; born July 24, 2002) is an American professional basketball player for the Toronto Raptors of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
