2024–25 Carolina Hurricanes Season
The 2024–25 Carolina Hurricanes season was the 46th season (45th season of play) for the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise that was established in June 1979, and the 27th season since the franchise relocated from the Hartford Whalers to start the 1997–98 season. On April 2, 2025, the Hurricanes clinched their seventh consecutive playoff spot after they won in regulation against the Washington Capitals. In the playoffs, the Hurricanes defeated the New Jersey Devils in five games in the first round, defeated the Washington Capitals in five games in the second round, but lost to the eventual Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers in five games in the Eastern Conference Finals. Metropolitan Division
The National Hockey League's Metropolitan Division (often referred to simply as the "Metro Division") was formed in 2013 as one of the two divisions in the Eastern Conference (NHL), Eastern Conference as part of a league realignment. It is also a successor of the original Atlantic Division (NHL, 1993–2013), Atlantic Division and one of the two successors to the Southeast Division (NHL), Southeast Division. Six of its teams were previously together in the Patrick Division from 1981 to 1993 (one joined in 1982). Pyotr Kochetkov
Pyotr Anatolevich Kochetkov (; born 25 June 1999) is a Russian professional ice hockey goaltender for the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was ranked as the top eligible international goaltender for the 2019 NHL entry draft, and was drafted in the second round (36th overall) by the Hurricanes. Kochetkov made his NHL debut in 2022 with the Hurricanes. Playing career Kochetkov first played as a youth within hometown club Dizel Penza. While with the Dizel Sports Academy, Kochetkov helped the claim the Volga region championship in 2011. Frederik Andersen
Frederik Andersen (born 2 October 1989) is a Danish professional ice hockey goaltender for the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League (NHL). He previously played for the Anaheim Ducks and Toronto Maple Leafs. Representing Denmark men's national ice hockey team, Denmark, Andersen competed in the 2010 IIHF World Championship. He was selected by the Hurricanes in the seventh round, 187th overall, of the 2010 NHL entry draft. Unable to come to terms with the Hurricanes, Andersen later re-entered the draft and was selected in the third round of the 2012 NHL entry draft, 87th overall. Don Waddell
Donald Douglas Waddell (born August 19, 1958) is an American professional ice hockey executive and former player who is currently the president of hockey operations and general manager for the Columbus Blue Jackets. He previously held similar leadership roles with the Carolina Hurricanes and Atlanta Thrashers. Playing career Waddell was selected 111th overall, in the 1978 NHL Amateur Draft. He was selected as the 3rd choice of the Los Angeles Kings on June 15, 1978. He played in the NHL for only one game with the Kings during the 1980–81 season, against the New York Rangers on January 28, 1981. His playing career consisted mostly of minor and college hockey. The Stanley Cup () is the championship trophy awarded annually to the National Hockey League (NHL) playoff champion. It is the oldest existing trophy to be awarded to a professional sports franchise in North America, and the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) considers it to be one of the "most important championships available to the sport". Hartford Whalers
The Hartford Whalers were a professional ice hockey team based for most of its 25-year existence in Hartford, Connecticut. The club played in the World Hockey Association (WHA) from 1972 until 1979, and in the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1979 to 1997. Originally based in Boston, they were charter members of the WHA, known as the New England Whalers for all seven seasons.
