2024 USL Championship Season
The 2024 USL Championship season will be the 14th season of the USL Championship and the seventh season under Division II sanctioning. The 2024 season will have 24 teams participating in two conferences during the regular season. Conference realignment will see Memphis 901 FC and FC Tulsa join the Western Conference, while expansion sides North Carolina FC and Rhode Island FC will join the Eastern Conference. Phoenix Rising FC are the defending league champions and the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC are the defending Players' Shield winners. El Paso Locomotive FC is an American professional association football, soccer team based in El Paso, Texas. Founded in 2018, the team made its debut in the USL Championship in 2019. Club crest and colors The Locomotive brand was unveiled on October 4, 2018, beating out finalists Lagartos, Estrellas, Stars, and Tejanos. The crest is shaped in a manner similar to Architecture of the California missions, Mission Style buildings and features three main colors: West Texas Sky blue, Desert Dusk blue, and High Noon Sun. San Antonio FC is a professional soccer club based in San Antonio, Texas. It competes in the USL Championship, the second-highest level of the United States soccer league system, as a member of the Western Conference. Sacramento Republic FC is an American professional soccer team based in Sacramento, California, that plays in the Western Conference of the USL Championship, the second level in US soccer. Co-founded by Warren Smith and Joe Wagoner in 2012, the team started play in 2014 at the 20,231-seat Hughes Stadium, before moving midseason to their current home at Heart Health Park. Oakland Roots Sports Club is an American professional soccer team based in Oakland, California. The club was formed in 2018 by a group of Oakland natives, and began play in the National Independent Soccer Association in the fall of 2019. New Mexico United is an American professional soccer team based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Founded in 2018, the team currently plays in the USL Championship, the second division of American soccer. History Former teams The state of New Mexico gained its first professional soccer team in the 1990s, the New Mexico Chiles of the American Professional Soccer League and later the USISL. The team was runner-up for the league title in 1995 and attracted an average home attendance of 3,854, but was folded by its owners in 1996. Loudoun United FC is an American professional soccer team based in Leesburg, Virginia. The team was founded in 2018 as the reserve team of D.C.
