2024 OFC Men's Nations Cup Group A
Group A of the 2024 OFC Men's Nations Cup took place from 15 to 21 June 2024. The group originally consisted of New Caledonia, defending champions New Zealand, Solomon Islands and hosts Vanuatu. However, New Caledonia withdrew from the tournament on 5 June due to the serious crisis in the country, leaving the group with three teams left. 2024 OFC Men's Nations Cup
The 2024 OFC Men's Nations Cup was the 11th edition of the OFC Men's Nations Cup, the quadrennial international men's Association football, football championship of Oceania organised by the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC). The tournament was played between 15 and 30 June 2024 in Suva, Fiji and Port Vila, Vanuatu. The defending champions were New Zealand men's national football team, New Zealand from the 2016 OFC Nations Cup, 2016 edition; the 2020 OFC Nations Cup, 2020 edition was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Oceania, COVID-19 pandemic. New Caledonia national football team, New Caledonia withdrew a few days before the start of the competition 2024 New Caledonia unrest, citing riots in the country, and the tournament played with seven teams. 2000 OFC Nations Cup
The 2000 OFC Nations Cup was held in Papeete, Tahiti. The six participating teams were Australia and New Zealand who qualified as of right, the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu who qualified from the Melanesia Cup, the Cook Islands and Tahiti who qualified from the Polynesia Cup. Australia beat New Zealand 2–0 in the final. The Solomon Islands beat Vanuatu 2–1 for third place. Fiji qualified to this edition but then withdrew due to the 2000 Fijian coup d'état and was replaced by Vanuatu. The Papua New Guinea Football Association, PNGFA is the governing body of football (soccer) in Papua New Guinea. The PNGFA is a member of both FIFA and OFC, having FIFA and OFC affiliation in 1966 after being founded in 1962. The PNGFA is a member of the Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee, meaning that the PNGFA has control over the men's and women's PNG Olympic football team. The Freshwater Stadium is an association football stadium in Port Vila, the capital of Vanuatu. The stadium has a seating capacity of 6,500. History In 2018 it was announced that FIFA would be financing a new football stadium in Vanuatu for the Vanuatu Football Federation (VFF). By February 2020, the first round of funds was used to level the site and run utilities while the second stage was to install fencing.
