2024 GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup
The 2024 Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup is the twelfth season of the GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup following on from the demise of the SRO Motorsports Group's FIA GT1 World Championship (an auto racing series for grand tourer cars), the fourth with the sponsorship of Fanatec. The season begins on 4 May at Brands Hatch, and will end on 13 October at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Calendar The calendar was released on 1 July 2023 at the SRO's annual 24 Hours of Spa press conference, featuring five rounds. Several adjustments were announced, including Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya joining the sprint schedule after being shuffled out of the endurance schedule, and the addition of Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours after a year away. Circuit Ricardo Tormo and Circuit Zandvoort will not return to the sprint schedule, after three and five years in the series respectively. GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup
The GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup, officially known as Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS for sponsorship reasons, formerly the FIA GT Series, is a sports car racing series organized by the Stéphane Ratel Organisation (SRO) with the approval of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). It was sponsored by Blancpain from 2014 to 2019, when it was variously branded as the Blancpain Sprint Series in 2014 and 2015, the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup in 2016 to 2018, and the Blancpain GT World Challenge Europe in 2019. In 2020, AWS was named 'Official Presenter' and the series was branded as "GT World Challenge Powered by AWS". Fanatec later joined as title sponsor in 2021, giving the series its current name. The championship now exclusively races in Europe, but had in previous years visited other continents, including Asia. David Graeme Pittard (born 29 January 1992) is a British racing driver who competes in the Nürburgring Endurance Series and IMSA SportsCar Championship. He was part of the Frikadelli Racing Team entry which won the 2023 24 Hours of Nürburgring. Early life Pittard studied Motorsport Engineering at Brunel University. Răzvan Petru Umbrărescu (born 30 June 1993) is a Romanian racing driver competing in the 2023 ADAC GT Masters for Haupt Racing Team. Career Umbrărescu started his car racing career in 2016 by competing some races of the Renault Clio Cup for the Certainty Racing Team. In 2017 he joined the German RN Vision STS team to compete in the GT4 European Series Northern Cup with Gabriele Piana and Hendrik Still as his teammates. James Jakes (born 4 August 1987 in Leeds, West Yorkshire) is a British racing driver. Career T-Cars Jakes started his racing career in 2002 competing in 5 rounds of the T-Car Championship. In 2003 James continued in T-cars, finishing 2nd in the championship. Formula Renault For the 2004 season, Jakes moved into the British Formula Renault Championship with Team AKA. Jakes progressed his skills as a racing driver to the point where he was regularly contending for race wins, helping him to attain 3rd in the championship in 2005. Luca Engstler (born 8 March 2000) is a German racing driver currently competing in the WTCR and ADAC TCR Germany Touring Car Championship. Having previously competed in the TCR Middle East Touring Car Series and ADAC Formula 4 amongst others. Racing career Engstler began his career in 2009 in Karting, he continued in karting until 2014.
