2023–24 Oklahoma Sooners Women's Basketball Team
The 2023–24 Oklahoma Sooners women's basketball team represented the University of Oklahoma during the 2023–24 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Sooners, were led by third-year head coach Jennie Baranczyk and played their home games at the Lloyd Noble Center as members of the Big 12 Conference. The season was the last season in the Big 12 Conference for Oklahoma as they joined the SEC on July 1, 2024. Previous season The Sooners finished the season 26–7, 14–4 in Big 12 play to win the Big 12 regular season title with Texas. As No. 2 seed in the Big 12 women's tournament, the Sooners defeated TCU in the quarterfinals before losing Iowa State in the semifinals. They received an at-large bid to the 2023 NCAA tournament as a 5th seed in the Greenville Region 1 where they defeated Portland in the first round before losing to UCLA in the second round. Jennie Baranczyk
Jennie Lillis Baranczyk (born Jennie Marie Lillis; February 22, 1982) is an American basketball coach who is the current head coach of the University of Oklahoma women's basketball team. Early life and education Born Jennie Marie Lillis in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jennie Baranczyk was raised in Urbandale, Iowa and attended Dowling Catholic High School in nearby West Des Moines. A communications major, Baranczyk attended the University of Iowa and played at forward on the Iowa Hawkeyes women's basketball team under head coach Lisa Bluder from 2000 to 2004. As a senior, Baranczyk averaged 16.0 points and 6.2 rebounds and was a second-team all-Big Ten selection. She also earned second-team All-Big Ten honors in 2002 and first-team honors in 2003, in addition to being a Women's Basketball Coaches Association Region 6 honorable mention All-American, and was an academic All-Big Ten honoree from 2002 to 2004. Choctaw is a city in Oklahoma County, Oklahoma, United States. It is the oldest chartered town in Oklahoma Territory. Waterloo West High School is one of three public high schools under the auspices of the Waterloo Community School District in Waterloo, Iowa. The school is located at the intersection of E. Ridgeway Ave. and Baltimore Ave. Mascot The school mascot is Westy the Wahawk. The name "Wahawk" is a portmanteau of the city name (Waterloo) and the county name (Black Hawk). Much controversy has surrounded the mascot, which was once an Indian chief thought to be politically incorrect.
