The 2023–24 season was the 137th in the history of Manchester United, their 32nd season in the Premier League and their 49th consecutive season in the top flight of English football. A campaign marred by injuries saw the club finish eighth in the Premier League with a negative goal difference, their worst position since 1989–90. United were knocked out of the EFL Cup in the fourth round by their opponents from the previous season's final, Newcastle United, and also recorded their worst-ever performance in the Champions League group stage, finishing bottom of their group with just four points. Philip Anthony Jones (born 21 February 1992) is an English professional footballer who plays for club Manchester United. Before joining Manchester United, Jones played for Blackburn Rovers at both youth and senior levels. Although primarily a centre-back, he has also been used as a right-back or defensive midfielder.
