2023–24 Liverpool F.C. Season
The 2023–24 season was Liverpool Football Club's 132nd season in existence and their 62nd consecutive season in the top flight of English football. In addition to the Premier League, they participated in the FA Cup, EFL Cup and the UEFA Europa League, having failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League in the previous season. Virgil van Dijk was appointed the new club captain after the departure of Jordan Henderson. The Dutchman also became Liverpool's second non-British or Irish captain after Sami Hyypiä, who was appointed in the 2001–02 season. Trent Alexander-Arnold also replaced James Milner as vice-captain. The season saw a rebuild in midfield as the club signed Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endō and, on transfer deadline day, Ryan Gravenberch. Ryan Jiro Gravenberch (born 16 May 2002) is a Dutch professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Bundesliga club Bayern Munich and the Netherlands national team. Club career Ajax Gravenberch joined the Ajax Youth Academy in 2010, and worked his way up through the junior levels. is a Japanese professional association football, footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for Premier League club Liverpool F.C., Liverpool and Captain (association football), captains the Japan national football team, Japan national team. Endō began his career at J1 League club Shonan Bellmare before moving to Urawa Red Diamonds in 2016, where he won the league title and the 2017 AFC Champions League. Dominik Szoboszlai (; born 25 October 2000) is a Hungarian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for club RB Leipzig and the Hungary national team. Alexis Mac Allister (born 24 December 1998) is an Argentine professional footballer who plays as a central midfielder for club Brighton & Hove Albion and the Argentina national team. James Philip Milner (born 4 January 1986) is an English professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for club Liverpool. Sami Tuomas Hyypiä (; born 7 October 1973) is a Finnish football manager and former defender. Hyypiä began his playing career with Ykkönen side Kumu and soon moved to Veikkausliiga outfit MyPa. He spent four years at the club, helping them win the Finnish Cup in 1992 and 1995. He moved to Willem II in 1995 and spent the next four years there.
