2023–24 LIU Sharks Men's Basketball Team
The 2023–24 LIU Sharks men's basketball team represented Long Island University in the 2023–24 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Sharks, led by second-year head coach Rod Strickland, played their home games at the Steinberg Wellness Center in Brooklyn, New York as members of the Northeast Conference (NEC). They finished the season 7–22, 6–10 in NEC play, to finish in seventh place. They lost in the quarterfinals of the NEC tournament to Merrimack. Previous season The Sharks finished the 2022–23 season 3–26, 1–15 in NEC play, to finish in last place. They lost to Merrimack in the first round of the NEC tournament. Rod Strickland
Rodney Strickland (born July 11, 1966) is an American basketball coach and former professional basketball player. He is currently the head coach at Long Island University. Prior to LIU, he served as the program manager for the NBA G League's professional path. Strickland played college basketball for the DePaul Blue Demons, earning All-American honors. He had a long career in the National Basketball Association (NBA), playing from 1988 to 2005. Strickland was an assistant coach for the South Florida Bulls, under Orlando Antigua from 2014 to 2017. He formerly served in an administrative role for the University of Kentucky basketball team under head coach John Calipari and was the director of basketball operations at the University of Memphis under Calipari. The 2023–24 Pepperdine Waves men's basketball team represented Pepperdine University during the 2023–24 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Waves were led by head coach Lorenzo Romar, in the sixth season of his second stint after coaching the Waves from 1996 to 1999. They played their home games at the Firestone Fieldhouse in Malibu, California as members of the West Coast Conference. They finished the season 13–20, 5–11 in WCC play to finish in a three-way tie for sixth place. As the No. 8 seed in the WCC Tournament, they defeated Pacific in the first round, before losing to San Diego in the second round. The 2023–24 Air Force Falcons men's basketball team represented the United States Air Force Academy during the 2023–24 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Falcons were led by head coach Joe Scott in his 4th season (8th overall) with the program and played their home games for the 56th season at Clune Arena in Colorado Springs, Colorado. They participated as members of the Mountain West Conference for the 25th season.
