2023–24 AHL Season
The 2023–24 AHL season is the 88th and current season of the American Hockey League. The regular season began on October 13, 2023, and end on April 21, 2024. The 2024 Calder Cup playoffs will follow the conclusion of the regular season. League changes For the first time since the 1994–95 season, the league will feature an independent team, with the Chicago Wolves playing independently, as they chose to end their affiliation with the Carolina Hurricanes. American Hockey League
The American Hockey League (AHL) is a professional ice hockey league based in the United States and Canada that serves as the primary Minor league#Ice hockey, developmental league for the National Hockey League (NHL). Since the 2010–11 AHL season, 2010–11 season, every team in the league has an affiliation agreement with one NHL team. When NHL teams do not have an AHL affiliate, players are assigned to AHL teams affiliated with other NHL teams. Twenty-six AHL teams are located in the United States and the remaining six are in Canada. The league offices are located in Springfield, Massachusetts, and its current president is Scott Howson. In general, a player must be at least 18 years of age to play in the AHL or not currently be beholden to a junior ice hockey team. Calgary Wranglers
The Calgary Wranglers are a professional ice hockey team based in Calgary, that began play in the 2022–23 American Hockey League (AHL) season. The team plays at the Scotiabank Saddledome, the home of their NHL affiliate team, the Calgary Flames. History On August 2, 2022, the team announced its name, bringing back the "Wranglers" moniker used by the WHL team of the same name from 1977 to 1987. Vegas Golden Knights
The Vegas Golden Knights are a professional ice hockey team based in the Las Vegas metropolitan area. They compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the Pacific Division in the Western Conference. Founded in 2017 as an expansion team, the Golden Knights are the first major sports franchise to represent Las Vegas. The team is owned by Black Knight Sports & Entertainment, a consortium led by Bill Foley and the Maloof family. Ryan Craig
Ryan F. Craig (born January 6, 1982) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey centre and current assistant coach with the Vegas Golden Knights of the National Hockey League. Prior to retirement, he was the captain of the Cleveland Monsters in the American Hockey League (AHL). Craig was drafted 255th overall in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning. Playing career As a youth, Craig played in the 1996 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with a minor ice hockey team from Abbotsford, British Columbia. Emanuel Viveiros
Emanuel "Manny" Viveiros (born January 8, 1966) is a Canadian-Austrian professional ice hockey coach and former player. Vivieros is currently the head coach of the Henderson Silver Knights of the American Hockey League. He is former head coach of the Spokane Chiefs in the Western Hockey League (WHL), an assistant coach for the Edmonton Oilers and head coach of the WHL's Swift Current Broncos. Playing career As a youth, Viveiros played in the 1979 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with a minor ice hockey team from St. Albert, Alberta. The Henderson Silver Knights are a professional ice hockey team based in Henderson, Nevada, that began play in the 2020–21 American Hockey League (AHL) season. The team plays its home games at the Dollar Loan Center in Henderson, Nevada. The team is an owned-and-operated affiliate of the Vegas Golden Knights. History The franchise began in 1971 as the Tidewater/Virginia Wings in the Norfolk, Virginia of the greater Hampton Roads area. Ben Simon
Benjamin Clarke Simon (born June 14, 1978) is an American former professional ice hockey center who played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Atlanta Thrashers and Columbus Blue Jackets between 2001 and 2006. He was the head coach of the ECHL's Cincinnati Cyclones for the 2013–14 season, guiding the club to a conference championship. Simon served as an assistant coach for the American Hockey League's Toronto Marlies in 2014–15 and the Grand Rapids Griffins from 2015 to 2018. Aaron Schneekloth
Aaron Schneekloth (born July 15, 1978) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player and a current coach in the Colorado Avalanche system, as the head coach of their affiliate located in the American Hockey League. Greg Cronin (born June 2, 1963) is an American professional ice hockey coach and current head coach of the Colorado Eagles of the AHL. Prior to joining the Eagles in 2018, Cronin held coaching positions with the New York Islanders and Toronto Maple Leafs of the NHL, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL, and Colorado College, the University of Maine, and Northeastern University of the NCAA. The Colorado Eagles are a professional minor league ice hockey team based in Loveland, Colorado. The Eagles play in the Pacific Division of the American Hockey League. Robert Nardella, Jr (born February 2, 1968) is an Italian-American former professional ice hockey defenseman who is currently the head coach of the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League (AHL).
