North Shewa Zone (Amhara)
North Shewa ( am, ሰሜን ሸዋ, translit=Semiēn Shewa) is a zone in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. North Shewa takes its name from the kingdom and former province of Shewa. The Zone is bordered on the south and the west by the Oromia Region, on the north by South Wollo, on the northeast by the Oromia Zone, and on the east by the Afar Region. The highest point in the Zone is Mount Abuye Meda (4012 meters), which is found in the Gish woreda; other prominent peaks include Mount Megezez. Gambela Region
The Gambela Region (also spelled Gambella; am, ጋምቤላ), officially the Gambela Peoples' Region, is a regional state in western Ethiopia, bordering South Sudan. Previously known as Region 12, its capital is Gambela. The Region is situated between the Baro and Akobo Rivers, with its western part including the Baro River. Murle People
The Murle are a Surmic ethnic group inhabiting the Pibor County and Boma area in Greater Pibor Administrative area, South Sudan, as well as parts of southwestern Ethiopia. They have also been referred as ''Beir'' by the Dinka and as ''Jebe'' by the Luo and Nuer, among others. The Murle speak the Murle language, which is part of the Surmic language family. The language cluster includes some adjoining groups in Sudan, as well as some non-contiguous Surmic populations in southwestern Ethiopia. Culture Murle in most cases practice a blend of animism and Christianity. Elders and witches often function as trouble fixers. But they are pastoralists in a country where localized and unpredictable shortages occur in rain, drinking water, bush fruits and cattle grass. Tigray People's Liberation Front
The Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF; ti, ህዝባዊ ወያነ ሓርነት ትግራይ, lit=Popular Struggle for the Freedom of Tigray), also called the Tigrayan People's Liberation Front, is a left-wing ethnic nationalist paramilitary group, a banned political party, and the former ruling party of Ethiopia. 2023 Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church Crisis
On 22 January 2023, three bishops led by Abune Sawiros formed 25-episcopate in Oromia and Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region that is condemned by the Holy Synod of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, led by Patriarch Abune Mathias. The group accused the Holy Synod of discriminating ethnic groups. On 26 January, the Holy Synod excommunicated them, while one archbishop of the group demanded apology to the Ethiopian Orthodox Church officials. Abune Mathias (born Teklemariam Asrat; 5 January 1941) is the current Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church since 2013. His full title is " His Holiness Abune Mathias I, Sixth Patriarch and Catholicos of Ethiopia, Archbishop of Axum and Ichege of the See of Saint Taklehaimanot". Early life Teklemariam Asrat was born in on 5 January 1941 in Agame, a district of Tigray Province, in Sebuha county. Teklemariam was ordained as deacon in 1954 by Abune Markos, the then Archbishop of Eritrea. Deacon Teklemariam served in several capacities at the Chohé monastery, in Tembien district of Tigray, where he stayed for most of the subsequent 14 years.
