The 2023 XFL Championship Game was an American football game on May 13, 2023, at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The contest determined the champion of the 2023 XFL season and was played between the South Division title winners Arlington Renegades and the North Division title winners DC Defenders. The game began at 8:00 p.m. EDT and was aired on ABC. Background The game was the first championship game of the second stint of the XFL. In the first stint of the XFL, there was only one championship game held, the Million Dollar Game in 2001. The league folded shortly after the game was played. A championship game was scheduled for the end of the 2020 XFL season but was forbidden from taking place due to stay-at-home orders and gathering restrictions tied to the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced the premature end of the 2020 season after five weeks of play. The 2023 Arlington Renegades season is the second season for the Arlington Renegades as a professional American football franchise. They are charter members of the XFL, one of eight teams to compete in the league for the 2023 season. The Renegades play their home games at the Choctaw Stadium and are led by head coach Bob Stoops. The Renegades had changed their franchise name from Dallas Renegades to Arlington Renegades prior to the 2023 season. Earning their first playoff berth, the Renegades eliminated the South Division regular season division champions Houston Roughnecks. With the win, the Renegades advance to the XFL Championship Game where they faced the DC Defenders, winning by a score of 35–26 to win their first ever XFL Championship. The Seattle Sea Dragons (formerly known as the Seattle Dragons) are a professional American football team based in Seattle, Washington. The team is a franchise of the new XFL and plays its home games at Lumen Field in Seattle. The Alamo Bowl is an NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision college football bowl game played annually since 1993 in the Alamodome in San Antonio, San Antonio, Texas. 2020 XFL Season
The 2020 XFL season was the first season in the reboot of the XFL, and the second in the history of the XFL brand created and owned by professional wrestling magnate Vince McMahon, coming 19 years after the 2001 XFL season.
