2023 Wimbledon Championships – Women's Singles
Markéta Vondroušová defeated Ons Jabeur in the final, 6–4, 6–4 to win the ladies' singles tennis title at the 2023 Wimbledon Championships. It was her first major singles title and her first title overall in six years. Vondroušová became the first unseeded female player to win the Wimbledon title, the first to contest the final since Billie Jean King did so in 1963, and at world No. 42 was the second-lowest-ranked finalist since the WTA rankings were established in 1975. By winning the title, Vondroušová made her debut in the top ten of the WTA rankings. Markéta Šimková ( née Vondroušová; ; born 28 June 1999) is a Czech professional tennis player. She has a career-high ranking of world No. 14 by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA). Vondroušová finished runner-up at the 2019 French Open, where she became the first teenage Grand Slam finalist on the tour since Caroline Wozniacki, nearly a decade earlier. She has won one singles title out of four finals on the WTA Tour and a silver medal at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Vondroušová is a former world No. 1 junior, having won two Grand Slam doubles titles. Sabine Katharina Lisicki (; born 22 September 1989) is a German professional tennis player. Lisicki turned professional in 2006, and her breakthrough came in 2009 when she reached the quarterfinals of the Wimbledon Championships, and also won her first title on the WTA Tour, at the Family Circle Cup.
