2023 Venezuelan Primera División Season
The 2023 Primera División season, officially Liga de Fútbol Profesional Venezolano or ''Liga FUTVE'', was the 67th season of the Venezuelan Primera División, the top-flight football league in Venezuela, and the 42nd season since the start of the professional era. The season began on 3 February and ended on 25 November 2023. Deportivo Táchira won their tenth title at the end of the season, defeating Caracas on penalty kicks following a 1–1 draw after extra time in the final. Metropolitanos were the defending champions. Format The competition format for this season was announced by the Liga FUTVE on 31 January 2023. Similar to the previous season, the 15 participating clubs took part in a double round-robin first stage in which they played each other twice (once at home and once away) for a total of 28 games. Venezuelan Primera División
The Primera División (; en, First Division), or Liga Venezolana (; en, Venezuelan League) is the top-flight professional football league of Venezuela. It was created in 1921 and turned professional in 1957. It is organized by the Federación Venezolana de Fútbol. Format Starting in the 2020 season, the 20 teams play in a home-and-away round-robin tournament, with the top eight teams advancing to the semi-final stage. In the semi-final stage, the eight teams are divided in two groups of four teams each, facing the other teams in their group twice. The two group winners will advance to the Serie Final to decide the league champions. The 2024 Primera División season, officially Liga de Fútbol Profesional Venezolano or ''Liga FUTVE'', is the 68th season of the Venezuelan Primera División, the top-flight football league in Venezuela, and the 43rd season since the start of the professional era. The season began on 2 February 2024, being pushed back from its original date of 19 January 2024 to avoid a clash with the 2024 CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament held in Venezuela. Deportivo Táchira are the defending champions. Competition format The 2024 season saw a return to the Apertura and Clausura format in the competition, which was used for the last time in 2019. Valencia () is the capital city of Carabobo State and the third-largest city in Venezuela. The city is an economic hub that contains Venezuela's top industries and manufacturing companies. Puerto Cabello () is a city on the north coast of Venezuela. It is located in Carabobo State, about 210 km west of Caracas. As of 2011, the city had a population of around 182,400.
