2023 Speaker Of The Dutch House Of Representatives Election
On 14 December 2023, the House of Representatives of the Netherlands elected its Speaker for the 2023–2028 term. The election was held three weeks after the 2023 general election. Incumbent Speaker Vera Bergkamp ( D66) retired from politics. Martin Bosma of the Party for Freedom was elected in the second round with 75 votes. Candidates Two members of the House of Representatives declared their candidacy. On 8 December, 59 year old Tom van der Lee, a member of the GroenLinks–PvdA group, became the first to announce his candidacy for the speakership. In his public application letter, he expressed his desire to bridge the gap between citizens and politicians and enhance the legislative process. Martin Bosma
Martin Bosma (born 16 July 1964) is a Dutch politician and former journalist serving as a member of the House of Representatives for the Party for Freedom (PVV) since 30 November 2006 and as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives since 2017. He focuses on matters of higher education, mass media and culture. GroenLinks–PvdA
GroenLinks–PvdA (), alternatively PvdA–GroenLinks, or GreenLeft–Labour in English, is an alliance between GroenLinks (GL) and the Labour Party (PvdA) in the Netherlands. The political alliance was founded at the national level by party leaders Lilianne Ploumen and Jesse Klaver during the 2021–2022 Dutch cabinet formation, whereas local alliances between the two parties had already been formed in prior years. Raymond De Roon
Raymond de Roon (born 1 September 1952 in Amsterdam) is a Dutch politician and former prosecutor. As a member of the Party for Freedom (Partij voor de Vrijheid) he has been an MP since 30 November 2006. He focuses on matters of foreign policy, military operations and the European Union. In the 2006 general elections De Roon was third on the party list and in the 2010 general elections he was fourth. Biography De Roon studied law at VU University Amsterdam and Leiden University. The secret ballot, also known as the Australian ballot, is a voting method in which a voter's identity in an election or a referendum is anonymous. This forestalls attempts to influence the voter by intimidation, blackmailing, and potential vote buying. This system is one means of achieving the goal of political privacy. Secret ballots are used in conjunction with various voting systems. The most basic form of a secret ballot utilizes blank pieces of paper upon which each voter writes their choice. Without revealing the votes to anyone, the voter folds the ballot paper in half and places it in a sealed box. This box is later emptied for counting. GroenLinks (, ) is a green political party in the Netherlands. It was formed on 1 March 1989 from the merger of four left-wing parties: the Communist Party of the Netherlands, the Pacifist Socialist Party, the Political Party of Radicals and the Evangelical People's Party, which shared left-wing and progressive ideals and earlier co-operated in Regenboog-coalition for the 1989 European Parliament election.
