2023 Real Salt Lake Season
The 2023 Real Salt Lake season was the team's 19th season in Major League Soccer, the top division of the American soccer pyramid. The team also competed in both the 2023 U.S. Open Cup and 2023 Leagues Cup. Real Salt Lake played their home games at America First Field in the Salt Lake City suburb of Sandy, and was managed by Pablo Mastroeni in his second full season with the club. Real Salt Lake
Real Salt Lake, often shortened to RSL, is an American professional soccer franchise based in the Salt Lake City metropolitan area. The club competes as a member club of Major League Soccer (MLS) in the Western Conference. RSL began play in 2005 as an expansion team of the league. The club was founded in 2004 when the club's first owner and founder was awarded an expansion berth in Major League Soccer. The club plays its home games at America First Field, a soccer-specific stadium located in the Salt Lake City suburb of Sandy, Utah, which they shared with their sister team, Utah Royals FC. Before moving to America First, RSL previously played home games at Rice-Eccles Stadium, located on the campus of the University of Utah, from 2005 to 2007. Real Monarchs
Real Monarchs is a professional soccer club playing in the MLS Next Pro, a third division league of American soccer. The team is owned by, and operates as the reserve team of, the Major League Soccer club Real Salt Lake. While the senior club is based, and plays, in Rio Tinto Stadium, Sandy, Utah, Real Monarchs SLC are based in the Real Salt Lake training facility in Herriman, Utah, playing out of Zions Bank Stadium. In 2017, Real Monarchs won the USL Regular Season Championship, the equivalent in the second division of the Supporters Shield. In 2019, Real Monarchs won their first outright USL Championship, defeating two-time champions Louisville City FC 3–1 at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium, Louisville, Kentucky. Forwards (also known as attackers) are outfield positions in an association football team who play the furthest up the pitch and are therefore most responsible for scoring goals as well as assisting them. Cristian Daniel "Chicho" Arango Duque (born 9 March 1995) is a Colombian professional footballer who plays as a forward for Major League Soccer club Real Salt Lake and the Colombia national team. Club career Early career Arango began his professional career with Envigado in 2012, aged 17. For the 2015–16 season, he was loaned out to Valencia B, Valencia's reserve team in the third division, where he scored eight goals in 26 games. Designated Player Rule
The Designated Player Rule, nicknamed the Beckham Rule, allows Major League Soccer franchises to sign up to three players that would be considered outside their salary cap (either by offering the player higher wages or by paying a transfer fee for the player). The rule, which was adopted ahead of the 2007 MLS season, enables teams to compete for star players in the international football market. The rule is one of two mechanisms by which MLS teams may exceed their salary cap, the other being allocation money. As of December 2019, there have been 209 Designated Players in league history. Damir Kreilach (; born 16 April 1989) is a Croatian football midfielder who currently plays for and captains Real Salt Lake in Major League Soccer. Career Kreilach began his professional career with Rijeka in the Croatian first division, making his debut at 18 years old in the 2007–08 season, eventually playing 128 matches in six seasons while scoring 19 goals. Braian Óscar Ojeda Rodríguez (pronounced “Bry-ahn”, born 27 June 2000) is a Paraguayan professional footballer who plays as a central midfielder for Real Salt Lake and the Paraguay national team.
