2023 Pittsburgh Panthers Women's Soccer Team
The 2023 Pittsburgh Panthers women's soccer team represented University of Pittsburgh during the 2023 NCAA Division I women's soccer season. The Panthers were led by head coach Randy Waldrum, in his sixth season. They played home games at Ambrose Urbanic Field. This was the team's 28th season playing organized women's college soccer and their 11th playing in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Panthers started off the season as the 14th ranked team in the United Soccer Coaches Poll and won their first six games before losing to number 21 . They would win their second game of the road trip to Cincinnati to finish the non-conference season 7–1–0. Despite the almost perfect record, the Panthers fell out of the rankings as the ACC season started. They did not play a Power 5 team in non-conference play. Randy Waldrum
Randy Marlon Waldrum (born September 25, 1956) is an American former professional soccer player, the current head coach of University of Pittsburgh Panthers women's soccer team and is the current head coach of the Nigeria women's national team on October 5, 2020. Coaching career He started his coaching career at Austin College in 1982, leading the men's soccer team to a 4–12–1 record. In 1988, he was the head men's soccer coach at Texas Wesleyan University, and compiled a 6–10 record. From 1989 to 1994, he coached both the men's and women's soccer teams at the University of Tulsa. He posted a 66–33–6 record with the men, and a 61–36–9 record with the women. In 1996, he founded the Baylor University women's soccer program, and went 46–14–3 from 1996 to 1998. Houston Cougars Women's Soccer
The Houston Cougars are the athletic teams representing the University of Houston. Informally, the Houston Cougars have also been referred to as the Coogs, UH, or simply Houston. Prosper is a town in Collin and Denton counties in the U.S. state of Texas. Prosper is located within the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metropolitan area. 2022 Florida State Seminoles Women's Soccer Team
The 2022 Florida State Seminoles women's soccer team represented Florida State University during the 2022 NCAA Division I women's soccer season. It was the 28th season of the university fielding a program. The Seminoles were led by first-year head coach Brian Pensky, who was hired prior to the season to replace long time coach Mark Krikorian. Florida State finished the season 17–3–3 and 8–2–0 in ACC play to finish in a tie for first place. As the second seed in the ACC Tournament, they received a bye into the Semifinals where they hosted Notre Dame. The match ended in a 3–3 draw and Florida State won the ensuing penalty shoot-out 4–2 to advance to the Final. Penalty Shoot-out (association Football)
A penalty shoot-out (officially kicks from the penalty mark) is a tie-breaking method in association football to determine which team is awarded victory in a match that cannot end in a draw, when the score is tied after the normal time as well as extra time (if used) have expired. In a penalty shoot-out, each team takes turns shooting at goal from the penalty mark, with the goal defended only by the opposing team's goalkeeper. Each team has five shots which must be taken by different kickers; the team that makes more successful kicks is declared the victor. Shoot-outs finish as soon as one team has an insurmountable lead. If scores are level after five pairs of shots, the shootout progresses into additional " sudden-death" rounds. Balls successfully kicked into the goal during a shoot-out do not count as goals for the individual kickers or the team, and are tallied separately from the goals scored during normal play (including extra time, if any).
